What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Unfortunately it's not just the hinge, this thing is made of rust. The bottom of the windshield fram is just rusted to the body and starting to bend the frame when i try to put it doen. I can wait till i get another body tub.

Ran a radiator-flush cycle, not from need but just due-diligence. Now to fill with Prestone and good to go. Never gets cold enough here (Gulf Coast) to freeze.

Ordered a Bluetooth amp for some tunes...... it came in yesterday. Nice and small - brought so that it will fit up in behind the dash...... And powerful enough to hear with the top off. Nice little unit - pen added for scale

It's ALIVE!!!!!!!

Finished all the last little details with wiring up the Derale electric fan controller- checked everything twice. started her up to adjust the timing because you have to when installing a digital MSD-6AL, the older models I guess are more analog and don't disrupt the timing. A $50 dollar timing light (because it's the one thing they don't rent) for 5 minutes of use. It will not go into a box where I'm sure to find the last timing light I bought 6 years ago. Also reran the fuel hose and filter so they are not tied against the exhaust manifold, and I put some larger hose around them to keep them cool since they are still on that side of the motor.

So it was done, timed and running smooth (with the obvious exhaust leaks from the header). I let it sit and idle pointed into the garage so I could have some shade with the back end outside. I sat there and just let it idle. I checked for the radiator to get hot, took a while for the bottom of it to get hot, then the fan slowly came on just like it's supposed to. I watched the fan come on and go off and come on and go off for a good few cycles with everything up to operating temp. It was beautiful.

After I was satisfied that all was working well (even the electric choke hooked to the oil pressure switch) I cleaned all the parts and tools out of it and took it up and down the street. It was great.

No hood on it at the moment, I still need to space the steering gearbox down about an inch and a half, then refit the radiator down so the hood will close. Never ever ever ever trust an aftermarket part that says "Direct Fit", period.

Might drive it down to my mechanics tomorrow and show him all the stuff I had to re-do from his team.

Sounds great!!! Don't ya just love it when everything goes right.

Used the Jeep to "try" and pull my 4X4 tractor out of the mud. No joy!!!!
I was brush hogging on my farm and knew that one spot always stays wet but I got a little careless and sunk it to the frame. Thank goodness for a front end loader. I was able to raise the front end up out of the mud and used rocks, logs, and whatever I could find to fill in the holes. The back end not so much, I couldn't even get a jack under it to lift it out of the mud.
I did hook the Jeep up to it but like I already said it wouldn't budge it. If the ground had not been so wet and if I had some better tires I think it would've pulled it out. Finally ended up taking the brush hog off because the rear end of the tractor was so low in the mud the hog was bottomed out in the mud even with the 3 point raised all the way up.
Finally got my Polaris Ranger 900 with a 2000 lb winch hooked up to it, had to chain it off to a tree to keep the Ranger from sliding forward.
Anywho, with my wife operating the winch and me on the tractor we finally got it out and back in the shed. Just took 4 hours lol, in 90 degree weather. I was covered in mud and was slap worn out.
I can't believe how much that little 2000 lb winch helped. And yes..........i've been looking at winches for the Jeep. Life's to short and i'm too old to go through that again.

Fixed my throttle return spring yet again. Going down the road and suddenly I am almost redlining the RPMs because the throttle return spring broke again. Well, it wasn't the return spring this time, it was the lacing wire holding it to one of the anchor points. This happens at least every 3-4 months so I have taken to having spare springs, pliers, and lacing wire in my CJ's toolbox. At this point it takes me less than 5 minutes to fix even with unlocking my toolbox and getting the stuff out. I am starting to wonder if my anchor points are too far apart but I cannot see anywhere else to anchor the spring to away from the throttle arm; when I got the Jeep the spring was stretched and anchored to the power steering booster.

That seems like a far stretch. What carb are you running? Got pics? Power steering booster or brake booster?

Sweet sounds like you are having a lot of fun with your Jeep that’s cool

Had to fix-- I guess every Jeep sentence could start that way.... a rear tail light that was out this morning. Looked like the PO did a trail fix on the wiring of the drivers tail light, you know what I'm talking about, use a knife to strip the wires and just twist them together. Yeah, fixed that a bit better for now with a proper crimped connector. That will last until I get the new body tub and rewire the whole thing like stock.

Fixed the front running light, it would blink but no running light. Wiggled the wires around until it came on then tucked them away again.

So I had full working lights. (replaced the hi/low beam foot switch when I came back) Took her out for a real first drive! She ran great (went to Taco Bell). I heard something fall off but I couldn't see it in the rearview mirror so it didn't happen.

On the way back I stopped at a dirt road and locked the front hubs in, drove about fifty feet to make sure nothing was wrong, then put her in 4H and went on down the road. I could tell it felt different but not a lot, and it felt good and solid. When I shifted back to 2H I noticed the shifter felt very very loose and has plenty of free play. Of course it all needs to be rebuilt but it seems to be working well for the moment.

And i passed a little cutie in a yellow wrangler smiling at me so the whole day was a win right there.

It was a fun early afternoon. The grocery store is next.

Started noticing a slight grinding sound when going into second gear. I pulled out the fill plug and it was dripping out fluid, so i knew it wasn't low, so I changed out the oil with Sta-Lube CRC gear Oil. It may just be in my head, but it definitely seemed to shift smoother now. Didn't notice any grinding. BTW is there a hard and fast rule for when to change Transmission fluid? last time the fluid was switched out was when i installed a rebuilt kit back in 2015.

BTW those hand pump kits for adding oil is awesome! :D

I've wondered what the rule should be too. When I picked up my Jeep from the mechanic a couple weeks ago and I asked him about the fluids he said the rear diff was dirty but he just topped it off. I'm thinking it should be changed but he was ok with it. Now going back farther to when I was in auto shop class I could never get an answer to that either, it was always "Just make sure it's topped off".

I know there used to be salts in the diff oil that was part of the lubrication and they could wear out so I never understood why no one ever changed it out.

It was, I have anchored near the EGR now; its shorter and more straight to the movement of the accelerator linkage. I am mulling over a long term fix but inspiration has so far failed to strike.

I have a Weber carb.

I drove my Jeep to work today. It's been baby steps while I see what will break and what won't. First just to the mechanic shop, then to Taco Bell and the grocery store, and now to work and back. I'm really liking this Jeep stuff, it's just a blast to drive. Still wish I had a 4-speed instead of the three but it's still fun.

Think I'll take it again tomorrow.

You will have graduated to the big time when you drive it to work with the top off this January. :)

Here's the spring from my Weber carb. My mechanic put the carb on for me and used my original dirty old springs so I don't think the kit came with new springs. I got these from the parts store and put these on in their place. The bracket by the EGR valve was from the stock carb unit.
That's just about where I have mine anchored now, except I have a different mounting bracket/bar. I am certain I will eventually get it right but for now its not so much a pain as an adventure; like just about everything CJ7 :)

just installed a rubber floor mat for my Tuffy drawer. Finally, my CJ won't sound like an allotment shed when driving down the road. ;)
