What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I spent all day working on Jeeps.

The day started with my bearing splitter and shop press helping a buddy replace his bearings and synchros for the AX15 in his XJ. We found out that one of the gears had chipped teeth so we stopped and set the parts aside so he can order a replacement.

After that I got to work putting in a captive nut in the frame for my steering box mount. For some reason, maybe because it came with manual steering, there were only two captive nuts, both under the shackle hanger. The third was just a big hole. Oddly enough, the passenger side of the frame has its captive nut that was never used.

So I used a Dremel tool to cut out a small section and welded in a patch piece with a captive nut on it. It was labor intensive but I really do want to have all the strength I can since I'm putting in power steering (with ram assist) for large tires. I have the MORE heavy duty steering box mount and it would look goofy with one bolt not there.

But I'm just about done with all the detail work the frame needed and I'm ready to start the assembly process. Tomorrow I'll see if I can rope my neighbor into helping me flip the frame so I can do the last little bits and at least get the axles under it.

A couple buddies came by yesterday and drug me down to Big Rock offroad park.

Just bought my CJ 2 weeks ago. Today, I ordered seat belts, because the ones in it consisted of the belt, tied to the buckle. The retracting mechanism was completely shot on both driver and passenger sides. Since I was unable to find anything in a junkyard, I had to buy new, which is probably the best way to go, anyway. Should be safe in about a week.

Looks fun Old Dog!
I see you found some challenging trails.

My son was in town so I took him four wheeling. We rented a cabin in the mountains near Silverton Colorado.

I have stayed here before.
Then we headed out in the CJ5 . We took Lower Engineer Pass Trail. This trail is very rough but it can be accomplished in a stock jeep. You will be using 4x4 low almost the whole way.
Here is a couple of videos my son filmed while I drove:

Then we headed to Animas Forks Ghost town. At over 11,000 feet in the mountains it's no wonder it was abandoned. From there we went over California Pass (12930 ft).

Up to this point it was nice enough to ride with the doors off but as we left California Pass there was snow everywhere so we put the doors back on.

From there we went over Hurricane Pass and then Corkscrew Pass before getting back to our cabin.
We had a great time.

Lit out early for last day of deer season.
Vegetarian = poor hunter = me. :shooter:
So'k though, lots of elk misery left.

A beautiful day, wide open country, a nice CJ

Thanks Ken,
I put my new softop on the evening before @ 50*f, doesn't work so well when cold.
Ductaped it on.
About 10am it was 50*f, cloudless, folded the top down, doesn't work so well when cold.
Had a blast all day driving BLM roads, saw a few deer 10000 yards away.
Back at the hiway about 7pm, 50*f, time to put the top back up for the 30 mile drive home, doesn't work so well when cold.
My new top took a beating on it's 1st trip out.
I'd do it all again, heck probably will.
C'mon out!

More welding on CJ5 floor today.
Jet, I know all about putting cold tops on. The only thing worse is putting a cold top on because it's raining!

Tried to put the new super top soft top on that I order from 4 wheel parts, only to find that i was missing the hardware and the door handles were missing as well. I can't give them total blame though. I think if falls back on Fedex. Looks like I will be going down to 4 wheel parts tomorrow.
