What did you do to or with your CJ today?

Took my Grille out. Cleaned up the rust and now ready to repaint it.

Love the fact only metal I have are the Grille and tailgate, and the grille rusted behind the winch.

Great that out of 11 bolts, 6 broke when trying to remove them. Can't use the torch to heat them as that may be bad on the 'glass fenders.

I took my CJ into the La Plata Mountains. Normally I prefer heading into the mountains near Silverton (an hour away). The La Plata Mts are only 30 minutes from my home. I like it in the La Platas because the trails are not not very well maintained and are not traveled very often. These La Plata Mts may not be as tall as others in Colorado but they look taller because their base is lower.

Here is one of my favorite trails there because it is a little more challenging.

I always bring a saw. Today I had one fallen tree to cut and move off the trail.
Then I found a new trail I've never been on before. I thought I have been everywhere in those mountains. It's nice to explore a new trail. I have seen this trail before but to get to it I have to cross the La Plata River. Most of the time that river is impassable. Not today. Here I am leaving the trail.

As I started to climb the trail got very narrow and snowy. Locking my rear OX locker I still ran into places that I spun my tires and had trouble advancing. Then I came across this fallen tree. After getting out and looking over the situation I decided I could make it past the tree but with more snow on the steep slope ahead I thought it would take a bit of winching.

The sun was already starting to set (I took the above picture with a flash). I decided to head back home.
Now I have to decide what to do tomorrow. I have a few chores to do but I am also thinking I would love to explore that trail more thoroughly. If I don't check it out now it might be a year before I can cross that river again.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: God I Love Colorado!

i got my OE style tach installed from Omix, its looks like its pretty good quality i was surprised. i cut a whole in the dash where it would have come factory. i also relocated my temp gauge to a diamond plate, er plate that covers the whole where my cd player used to be. the dash looks good finally

Got the cam and the rest of the valvetrain put in. Started assembly of the front end of the engine. It's a good thing my J10 has the same engine. I'd never be able to figure out what goes where without a reference. I also got the rear bellhousing on and maneuvered the Transmission in place behind the engine. But an SM465 is not something you handle by yourself so I'm going to recruit some help to get it lifted up into place. Once that's in I can measure for the crossmember and fabricate it.

Re-assembled after puting on a fresh couple coats of paint over the weekend. Not perfect, but looks better than the faded yellow that was on it when I got it (IMO). P.O. painted the chrome grill cover neon green; now am in process of stripping that paint back to the chrome.
First pic. - the day I brought it home.
Second and third - now.

took the sheet metal screws out that were holding my aaoogga horn, and replaced them with proper nuts/bolts

I had to rewire my alternator since the guy I bought it from had no idea what he was doing. Only took me three hours to undo the spiderweb he had created. Good news is it works great now. Tomorrow I tackle the carburetor.

Kicked a Tire, and asked it "why are you punishing me?"

Bought a car alarm. With the huge rash of Jeep thefts in the KC area, and with CJ's so easy to steal, it will be nice to have a little peace of mind.

started to install the 11' brakes in the 3b
now you got me thinking about a alarm even though it has a gas shut off that is hidden along with a kill switch no power
wonder where I can find lojack

Busy day for me, installed a new fuel filter and pump, starter solenoid, re wired the alternator and ext. regulator, installed a tach, timed the beast and finally got to drive it without the sputtering... I love my Jeep.

Had to use the choke for the first time today... stupid thing wouldn't disengage. Stopped on the side of the road, cussin and freezin, popped the hood and put it in the right spot. Added choke linkage adjustment to list of :dung: to do.

On the positive side, after fighting with the zippers on the soft top I had a genius moment. Went to the garage and got a spray can of white lithium grease. After a thorough coating they work AWESOME!

I took my Jeep back from my son and washed last weekends mud off. i have an oil leak somewhere around the oil pump. washed the oil off and went looking for the leak.:)

I paid and hauled it home.:D

Do you ever get tired of going to places like this?? Would it be a treat for you to make the drive from Amarillo to Dallas?? It you have never been, it's flat and featureless, I, personally, try to make the trip in the dark, it's much more interesting that way. It could make a nice change for you.
