What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I’ve even seen a few people with hardtops paint the outside middle area white on top. Most people don’t see that area unless they are very tall. Helps with the sun reflection. That heat and sun around here is why I would never have a hard top here. I’m pretty good with just the shade over my head and a bottle of ice water going down the road. I would in Colorado though. :chug:

Yeah, Colorado is kinda funny with altitude and sunshine. It seems as if you can be in the shade, the feels like temperature is always cooler. The instant that the sun hits your skin, it becomes extremely hot. With the exception of when the sun is directly overhead, one of us is in complete sunshine as we drive around when the sides and doors were off. With over 300 days of sunshine guaranteed, that's a lot of skin cooking. We were domiciled in Florida for a while, and I agree with the top off in that climate. Coming back home, it was time for a change. There is a company that makes a headliner that attaches to the inside ceiling with adhesive velcro strips and "claims" to reduce the inside temp by up to 30 degrees. I have until spring to research that claim and see if there are any other products available. The outside is sprayed in black raptor liner and I'm sure that doesn't help block the sun. It does make the hail protection better though. All in all, we are glad to have put the top on, and so far, we are very happy with a working ac. I was always a little envious when seeing jeeps drive past with their windows up, knowing that they were more comfortable than me. Looking cool with my windows and doors off was usually not a comfortable ride. The price of getting older I guess. :)

I have often thought about installing an insulating headliner in my hard top, then I get to the “ how to attach” part, and stop thinking about it. Don’t really want to glue it as it will at some point need to be replaced, Velcro sucks, and screws would give the Jeep that “Pinhead” look. It does transition to a double wall along the corners…… Have you given any thought about how you want to attach it? May be a good project to get done before I reinstall it this fall.

As for what I did to mine - got the soft top back on….. finally bit the bullet and had the rear window zipper replaced. This fall when the tops get swapped I’ll get the side zippers done. To say the quality of the zippers Quadratec uses in their tops sucks is a huge understatement. It is the anniversary too they sold a couple years ago - the top is great - but man did the zippers turn to :dung: fast. Had a local custom upholstery shop swap it. He said they do 4 or 5 Jeep tops a month, so it’s not just me.

That is the question that I just can't answer yet. There is a company called hotheads, that uses an adhesive velcro. Like you, i am not big on the idea of velcro and gluing anything to a top that is hard to replace is not in the cards. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything but those two options. I do know that the relatively thin fiberglass on top does not stop hot or cold very well. In fact, the sun heats that puppy up like a stove. It isn't imperative, I guess. The top does its job. I'm just thinking of making it better. Too much time on my hand's kind of a thing. If you run across a good idea, please let us know.

I have the black soft top. Only time it’s on is the winter in my area. Just to hot in the sun.

I need to go look at the underside of mine…… just had a thought, but wanna see if it’ll work before I run it up the flag pole……. The panels Hotheads makes - are they fairly rigid or flexible?

HOTHEAD Headliners appear to be a rigid product of a headliner board, thin foam, and then a material covering. I have watched a couple of videos about them and still haven't come to a conclusion. They advertise that they are available for phone conversations and are easy to talk to. I haven't made that commitment yet either. They are leading the pack in my choices so far. Some might consider them pricey, but They look to be well built. I also like the idea they have for sound deadening. When I get closer to committing I will definitely call them and get all the info. I believe that the headliner will help keep the jeep warmer in the winter as well. Maybe I'm hoping for too much.

I’ll give em a call tomorrow. I have questions also….

My mechanical fuel pump was leaking on my on my '72 CJ5 with AMC 304 V8. Went through 3 new ones with no success. Finally had to have a spacer put in b/c the eccentric/shaft was banging the rocker arm lever too hard. Ran all new hard lines from the fuel tank too. Runs great now.
