Installed new rings on my pistons, bolted the crank down. As soon as I get some lunch, Im dropping pistons back in.

Ok that was fun. Now I know why engine builders get such a good shop-rate.

Pistons installed. All that's left is the cam, lifters, heads and start putting all the small stuff back on: timing set, cover, oilpan, valley pan, intake, flywheel, clutch....oh boy :dbanana:

Got a few more circuits finished up on my wiring job. :) The headlights (low and high), markers and the front off-road lights are done. Now I need to figure out where the ignition switch will be at, so I can finish up the ignition system. I can't install my pretty steering column until it gets rebuilt, so I can't do up the turn signals. Brake lights are next on the list, along with wipers, radio, winch remote and a few inop dash lights.
Then on to actually wiring/plumbing the rest of the gauges, and maybe re-doing the wiring from the cowl to the taillights (thats the only stock wiring left right now).

what caused the failure????
I am not sure, but seeing this is the 3rd column I will be putting in, its my firm belief that the standard tilting mechanism isnt able to put up with the stresses of my constant pulling and turning. I wheel to hard in other words.

Do you have manual steering?
Where are these steering columns breaking?
This is an odd problem I think something else is going on here. I have never heard of someone repeatedly breaking steering shafts.

no its power steering and its the actuall tilt mechanism/ bearings it is an aliminum plate that hold the tilt together its what keeps breaking

Got the cam in, timing set, heads torqued down, lifters in, pushrods installed, rockers bolted down. But alas...Monday comes so soon :(

I'll try and get some small stuff finished throughout the week (valley pan, intake, timing cover, oilpan, flywheel/clutch) and hopefully get it back between the framerails by this weekend.

PS. I need some propane tanks :D

Cut off what seemed to be a 1000lb piece of oil field pipe from rear crossmember removed rear crossmember. Stared baffled at the fuel tank for several hours trying to figure out exactly how it is held in place. Mocked up new rear crossmember (off center for some reason) to position body for mounting so i can send body for paint and start prepping frame!:)

Lately i've just been dreaming of driving my CJ. Cabin fever i guess.
The tires are too crappy to drive in the snow/ice, so the Jeep just sits waiting patiently.

There's legend of a wild hot springs somewhere in the mountains where i did some Jeeping last summer. I figured it was only legend.
I've been "Google earthing" my area, & i think i found it.
I could ride my snowmobile now, or wait until spring to Jeep it. Hmmmmmmmm.

I order a JB twin stick shifter assembly for my Dana 20 . Soon my days of fighting to get it to shift will be over, and I'll have the options of front wheel drive and 2 wheel low! :D

Cleaned up and painted the Oh *&^% Bar

I don't own any other 4 wheel drive vehicle. It's been snowing in central Indiana. I decided I needed to make my Jeep driveable in the winter as a back up vehicle. I almost bought a used hardtop for $400.00. Instead, I installed the factory soft top that I got with the Jeep. It was missing 2 bars around the right door and the rear bow. I picked up enough stuff at Lowes to make the parts. I made the bow out of 3/4 inch conduit. Had to hook up a couple heater cables and put on some heater knobs. I'm ready for a blizzard. My grandson wants us to drive it to the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show tomorrow. Sounds like fun.

Painted the windshield frame to see if I liked this color.

Ya, that does sound like fun. Did you go?

No. After his homework was done, he wanted to try out his new pellet gun. Then the football games came on. Oh well. I need to find a new gun for deer hunting next year. I wish it would snow real hard. I'm dying to drive this Jeep in the snow now that it has a top. I took it out in the back yard and cut a few donuts in it.

Well i finished what would sound like a pointless engine swap. I figured out that clutch lineup tools come in very handy, after several hrs of battling with my new AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l that was given to me. Although i did manage to gain an HEI distributor, and heddman headers. I stole some 24" glasspacks, of my parts truck for my exhaust, got them installed and 1 is busted so it sounds like a harley. :D

Well boys, and hopefully womem:drool: after waiting and waiting she has finally arrived safe and sound. She even had the trailer all to herself. She made the journey all the way from Southern California to Southern Utah today. Now time to get to striping her down. After pulling seats and a bunch of other stuff, can't see much rust, but lots of dirt,:chug: (fingers crossed). Work in progress. Will keep posted.

Boy, that looks like an almost twin to the one I owned when I lived in Las Vegas! Good find and we can't wait to see what you do with it!
