What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I spent most of today right here. took me a good part of the afternoon just reading. Found out more about my 6 in the past 8 hours than I can describe. Totally EXCITED over what I have found here. Real life, real pictures, and real talk

I spent Saturday and Sunday pulling the gas tanks, reassessing the steering - still a proponderance, and trying to find SS windshield hinges (no such luck).

BTW CJ forums = #9 don't forget to vote!!

gas tanks out and ready for prepping. pass side tank, an add on, FULL of rust so I'll R/R but not so sure I will reinstall, maybe sell.
r/r windshield frame , waiting for ups man with the gasgets.
Turned 80deg here and I really wanna ger it back to roadable.

today was windshield day. Carried my newly painted frame to the glass shop and found that Collins brothers sold me the wrong gasket.
Had a gasket delivered from across town and they got it finished just before closing time. Home again and put the hinge seal on, not quite as good a fit as I would like mounted to the hinges and put the wipers back together. I like the new wipeboy wipers, I always hated the originals.

Did you do the motor and linkage switch out for the wipeboys?

Drove the "Ripken" CJ all day. Still have some sluggishness and I ordered tranny and engine mounts. Researched windshield wipers and love the wiperboys, but thought you needed to do the motor and linkage swap. (Don't have time for that now.) So I ordered some new eleven inch replacements and they will be here Wednesday. Scheduled some valve "tweakage" fr Monday afternoon. All in all, I am one happy Jeeper.

It is a new motor but just stock and the Pittman arm on the motor is replaced, it is about 1/2" longer. I may pull it down and shorten the arm just a hair, it makes hard contact with the stops on the pivots and moves them just enough that it will eventually cause metal fatigue in the frame sheet metal. It is just barely noticeable and to tell the truth, as much as it has rained in Dallas Texas in the last 5 years it would more than likely last longer than I will. The change over is a walk in the park, the hard part is getting the old arm off the motor and that is not big deal. Two pointers, the new motor will not have an arm but if you use the old motor make sure to mark the location before pulling the arm and when you remove the retainer clip on the drivers side linkage to remove the motor fold the windshield down. this makes everything easier but if you loose control of the clip it seems to have a perfect trajectory to go straight down the defrost vent. A telescoping magnetic retrieval tool will find it once you have managed to snake it to the bottom but it is still a PITA. All in all I think it was worth wile project and a good value. the different size blades is a bit strange but I think I can adapt.:D

Not today, but yesterday. Welded the spring hangers on my homemade frame, decided a plasma welder was a tool sent by the devil.

I saw the pics of your front bumper. Is that "off the shelf" from somewhere, or custom made? I really like the looks of it.

Got the front body work off, removed seats, roll bar and windshield frame. started pulling stuff off the firewall. Almost ready to pull the tub.

what the heck is a Plasma welder??

FYI - Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals of different thicknesses (or sometimes other materials) using a plasma torch. In this process, an inert gas (in some units, compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut.

same principle but welding instead of cutting - me thinks.

It's not a plasma welder but a plasma cutter. I was out driving my CJ today when my cluch linkage came apart again aaaaaaaaaaggg. This is why I think a tow bar should come with a CJ from the factory. Had to call the wife to come and get me so I could dig the tow bar out of the garage and throw it in the truck to go get it and tow it home.

Are you telling us that you can't drive a CJ with out a clutch?? you should be ashamed of your self.:D

Discovered a broken motor mount. Found a replacement at The Pep Boys

Probably install it tomorrow.

With installing a 2-1\2" lift, the stock sway bar end links were short, so I cut the center bars out and welded in longer 1\2" solid bar stock...turned out well. Will blast and paint tomorrow.

Well I knew that the windshield frame was leaking pretty badly and I did see a bit of cancer under the black RTV gasket material the PO used in an attempt to waterproof. What I found was stage 4 decay upon removal, wow!

Looks as if a new windshield frame, new glass and maybe install "WIPEBOY" while I am at it. Any reviews on Wipeboy product Ladies and Gentlemen?

wipeboy is everything you hope it will be. I am happy with mine. I recommend Collins bros for the new frame, it is the right gauge metal and with the exception of some reinforcement on the front face looks just like the original. I would find the glass, gaskets and cowl seal locally if at all possible.

Where does one get a "Collins Bros" windshield frame? Is Collins Bros a website or a manufacturer?
