What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Went for a nice ride this morning to the mountains and back (about 2 hours). I just got my 1979 CJ7 about 3 weeks ago. I've already spent $600.00 on seat covers, tire cover, valve gasket, sun visors, fuel gauge, oil pressure sending unit, etc., etc. This afternoon, I took the front tires off to check what needed to be replaced as far as brakes go....one of the brake pads was broken and there was a mysterious liquid coming from the rubber boot on the brake caliper when I squeeze it (it looks like a mixture of water and something). So I just spent another $200 and ordered new calipers, rotors, brake lines, and pads for the front. I also checked the brake fluid reservoir and it does not look very clear so I guess I need to flush the entire system. As a newby Jeep owner does anyone have any other suggestions or pointers for me to do today?

Interesting. :chug:
i prototyped my new door armrests with cupholders.

what do you guys think?? they started life as arms off of an old camp chair that i was about to throw away but the parts spoke to me.

Picked up a broken fan shroud that came off a John Deere backhoe at work last week. Using a skill saw and a dremel I cut it down and made a temporary shroud for the jeep. Kind of crude but it seems to help. Eventually I want to go electric. :)

thoes pads look nasty. If I were you I'd be changing the fluids in the diffs. and Transfer Case and Transmission . no telling when that was done last or if they are full of water.

Just Empty Every Pocket

Took the CJ for a ride!

Fixed the fuel gauge, bad wire.

Jumped a wire for the heat sending unit, broken wire somewhere in the bundle. Still not working but one thing at a time.

Changed fluid in both diffs, cleaned and painted covers and bolts.

Thanks Ol Dog, I'll definitely take your advice and change ALL the fluids.

Interesting. :chug:
thank you very much like i said it's in it's infancy but i think i can get it roughed in pretty good. plus i just bought a new chair on clearance to take apart and use once i get the final result.

I spent the morning fixing the leaking exhaust and radiator then being Pleased with what I'd done took it for a drive only for the clutch to go and if that wasnt bad enough I got a tow home from my parents in their land rover that was the icing on the cake of a bad day until tomorrow when I have to try and track down a new clutch

Took my beadlock's apart and cleaned all the dirt and sticks out from under the rings. What fun it is to retorque 120 bolts, took about 8 times around each wheel to get them right. My arm is ready to fall off.:D

Tried to re-torque the intake/exhaust bolt to hope fix what sounds like an exhaust leak. Some of those are a PITA to reach!

I didn't do it today, but last week I found out that the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a 4.0 head will haul the boat I just bought. Can't wait to see how well it trailers with the new stroker motor! :D

Put my Rubicon express 4,1/2 lift on. Wow is it a huge improvement over the Rough country. Now I have to figure out shocks because it flexes like crazy . Hugely impressed forward springs . Now i have to figure ou
t the next motor tranny combo.

Congrats on ridding yourself of the buck board Rough Country springs! They really live up to their name don't they?

As for it being too flexy now, do you have a front sway bar? I couldn't drive mine on the road without it!

Not yet. The project I bought didn't come with one . What did you use for shocks.Going to extend the mounts and measure with the suspension flexed .

Well get a sway bar and it'll cure all your ills! When I unhook my disconnects, my CJ leans so far in curves in the road that it feels like it's gonna rol over!

I'm still running Rough Country shocks. They work fine. I'm not sure on the length. They're the ones they recommended for 4" lift. The fronts bottom out just before the tires would rub on the fenders without contacting the front bump stops, so I'll probably change to some shorter ones when I gain more fender clearance with the TJ flare swap. Then I'll make the correct length bump stop extentions.

did a fuel pump tonight. damn thing quit in the middle of the driveway, while i was trying to push my bronco into the garage. so they were both broken in the driveway, and i couldnt get the wifes vw out. had to roll the jeep down the hill to go get parts, and fix it by flashlight only, with the garage and my tools a short distance away.

Celebrated when it started this morning as I left work. Darn faulty brake light switch...
