What did you do to or with your CJ today?
This is Week 3 of my upgrade projects. Revert to original dash & gauges, rebuilt heater w/Chevy blower motor, dual battery shelf, swap foot brake for hand brake, electrical cleanup, tilt column, new plugs & wires. Hoping to have it ready for the roll cage to go back in & soft top back on by October. I REALLY miss driving her!

New Spicer U-joints onto the rear drive shaft. Removed part was stamped "103" on the cross, had no grooves in the cross arm bottom to lube rollers. Spicer #5-153X has grooves across the bottom surface of each cross arm, gets grease directly onto the roller bearings.

I think it just is too close to the header(3/4") maybe less..next step is to can the headers for some stock AMC 304 e-manifolds if I can find some

GOOD CALL! Probably one of the best decisions I've made regarding my Jeep was to get a stock set of manifolds... HEADERS SUCK... Stock iron manifolds and good exhaust with nice sounding mufflers....Mufflers produce good sound, not headers. Good luck

Don,t group all headers in the same category. POS cheap headers have many problems. A godd set with thick machined flanges can and do work well if properly mounted. Don't say all headers suck if you happened to have a :dung: pair!

It all comes down to you get what you pay for.

I like my headers and the 2' cherry bombs behind them. THAT sounds good.:) Just my opinion though. The wife says she would like to carry on a conversation while riding in the jeep. Good luck with that.

Installed the chromoly axles in the front this week. Spent today rock crawling on the red mountain trail. going back tomorrow to do it again!!:D:D:D

I have done nothing to my jeep for the last 3 days other than Drive It. I have fixed anything and more importantly I haven't broke anything.

Unlike some, my Jeep is a working vehicle and a daily driver. I am currently using it to drag logs in from the woods to be cut and split for firewood, before Winter arrives. Last week, it was being used to stretch wire while installing barbwire fencing.
The almanac says we will be getting extra snow and ice this year, so it will come in handy to get down off the mountain I live on, when its time to go to the store or get the kiddos to school.

Worked somemore on getting it started, did get it to turn over finally..started taking the screwed up cherokee tilt wheel column out today as I did get my complete (with steering wheel) column from an 84 CJ5 in.

I've had four crappy sets....

And you're probably right about getting what you pay for.

But I still believe that manifolds are the way to go. I just dont believe for a second that the "potential" HP gains (and I am doubtful about anything noticable) are worth having on a Jeep. Besides, I dont recall any of us posting our 1/4 mile times and MPH through the traps--- in our Jeeps.

Stripped the freaking nut on the axle u-bolt, well u bolt was marred up and I didn't notice so tightening it up and got to that spot and it just spins. No coming off no getting tight.

So now I get to remove the tire and the shock and cut he little SOB off.

:)Troy,

Having fun again are you?

I just came in from the shop also..........mounted the Pwr Brake booster and the Hydraulic Clutch MC.
:D:D:D:D

Had a local jeep mechanic come and take it away on his flatbed to his shop..got tired of trying to sort out the PO's electrical handywork..hated to spend the money it will cost but Im more tired of tangled unmarked wires..trouble with projects or at least some I have had has been trying to make sense of a PO repair work..hard enough to figure out stuff from the factory as it is.

Just got an 83 CJ7 from an old rancher. Haven’t done much other than inspecting it trying to decide a good plan of attack on a complete teardown or just how far I really want to go!! I am however looking forward to working on it, as it was purchased with the intentions of being a family project. My two boys are drooling, waiting to tear into it, which of course get me excited too! Looking forward to learning as much as possible from the more experienced personnel here!

It's raining here today, so it's time to get the rig ready for Winter. Changing oil/filter, flushing radiator and adding anti-freeze, changing rear brake shoes, new belts, new wipers, greasing undercarriage and installing the rifle rack for the upcoming hunting season.

Congratulations on the find...!!
And even more congrats about turning this into a Father / sons project!! The memories will last a lifetime.

Nothing..still at the shop ..but I did score a Haynes and Chilton manuals for it for future repairs..got them through a couple of amazon sellers for a about the price of the same Hanyes manual alone at Autozone.

Just came in from bolting on the rebuilt Dana 300 Transfer Case , leak-checking a new pan gasket for the auto tranny TF999 , re-hooking the snorkel tube and Transmission coupling. While I was at it, a made a new water seal under the access panel over the hump where the Transfer Case shifter goes in, with blue RTV. Letting it harden up and will screw it down tight tomorrow.

-Removed the blown shocks that were horribly rusted. Replaced the front steering stabilizer. Early I had removed it entirely because it was blown. but then I got the "Death Wobble" and quickly put a new unit on.
-Removed 2 leafs in back, one in front.
-Removed 6 inch long shackles for stockers. It is now 75 inches to the roof, down from 80 inches!
-Changed front and rear diff fluids (and tranny and xfer case)
-put on my hard top and doors
-fixed the right door hinge
-patched up rust (many times)
-bondo some areas
-replaced stupidly-placed fuel lines from previous owner
-replaced 30 year old upper and lower radiator hoses
-New plugs (worst plugs I have ever seen, no wonder it was missing so badly)
-New plug wires
-compression test
-new master cylinder
-bled brakes
-removed all emissions that were connected but not functioing
-plugged all unknown fuel lines/breathers, etc.
-painted valve cover blue
-removed rear tire rack because it was destroyed and about to fall off
-new seat covers
-hooked up windshield wipers
-added missing bolt to steering column
-sawed off left door mounts that were sticking into passsenger compartment

Oops, that was like over 4 weeks, not "today"...
