Do your self a favor and replace ALL the bearings and take a hard look at the inner spindle bearings. The blue from over heating can be removed, that doesn't mean damage from over heating isn't still there. It is disappointing to remove the hub to find that kind of rust, my hubs looked exactly like that so I replaced lots of stuff.

So, we've spent practically the whole day together. Bought her a new set of 21" jackstands- not to be confused with Jacks that are standing (someone really should write an informative article on that subject as the instructions included are not comprehensive and have no diagrams). Jacked her up so I could spin the wheels- Done. Not the result I hoped for. Also tried to remove diff cover. No luck there either. Need more tools...
Oh and, found my primary set of keys that have been missing since last time I played with her...
Will start fresh another day. Temp says 84f. Time to chill with a Leinenkugel :-)

I just put a good magnifying glass to the caged needle spindle bearings and yes, they need replacing as well. The good news, I called NAPA 5 minutes before they closed, they crossed a "Torrington" B-2110 to a National and will have them by Thursday for me along with a reman Saginaw steering gear box.

I can't think of a more American thing to do on the 4th of July than work on an AMC Jeep!

Sorry to hear that your Torington bearings are bad, but not at all surprised either. Do you know how to remove them? If not I can help. Easy with the right tool, a pain done any other way.

New upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, heater hoses, thermostat housing and radiator cap.

Burped, pressurized, no leaks and no overheating.

is there a good story to go along with this??

Sure hope so...

Otherwise it's just a broken part...

:D

Side note, getting ready to hit the Rubicon! :booze: :dbanana: :driving:

This time tomorrow I'll be starting the 2-2.5 hour trip to the rubicon loaded up and set for some fun.

:chug:

is there a good story to go along with this??

Unfortunately no. Just a little mud, too little steel, and more than enough power and traction. That hybridized 25/27 axle has been living on borrowed time for 3 decades and reality finally caught up to it. It actually did me a favor since I cringe just airing down the tires let alone having any sort of traction device in there.

I'm going to put it back together and hopefully nurse it through the rest of our too short summer at which time it will be replaced by a high pinion Dana 44 I've been collecting parts to build for a couple of years. Downside is I'll have to wheel the Jake for a couple of weeks. I didn't think finding parts for those would be a big deal but apparently it is. Most of them are probably now being returned from china in the form of cheap cranks and rods.

This morning I pulled the carburetor off the 360 and brought it down to be rebuilt.

I've been whining about poor gas mileage for a while now and about the last thing left to work on was the carburetor. To the rebuilder it went. I honestly hoped there would be something wrong with it. There's nothing more discouraging than paying a bunch of money to have find nothing wrong. Oddly enough the engine ran well, it started, it accelerated without a single stumble, it shut off without running on.

So about 2:00pm the call came in and the carburetor was done. As it turned out the one main jet was running at 80% and the other was far worse. With a ruptured and leaking power valve. Evidently the thing was a mess.

This evening most of it was reinstalled. Hope beyond hope it will still run well and mileage will be better.

where on earth did you find this?? I have only seen them for the pass side.

I don't know which had them and which didn't but I have seen a few available lately. I picked mine up from a local friend who always finds parts. I just don't know how.
