Sounds good… have to get it home first… could today be the day????

Gr8dain, am I looking at a broken inner support bracket or did the idler bushing let loose? either can be caused by bad motor mounts.

Make sure your engine and tranny mounts are not broken.
What does the other side of the bell-crank look like?
LG

I looked at the motor mounts just last weekend. I will look at them again as well as the tranny mount this weekend. I have next week off from work, so I have some time to work on it. Just wasn't planned.

I think the rod that goes into the side of the bell crank snapped.

I am going to pick up a replacement this Saturday. Thinking about going to hydraulic set up. But may put the replacement on for now while I do the research and collect the parts.

LG, i have not had a chance to really get under there to see everything yet. I will update once I do.

Your bell crank has the bent rod joint rather than the ball style joint. Since the bent rod essentially has no working surface for lubrication the rod wears through like it's being sawed with a dull blade. I had that very system in an old CJ and replaced it with a Heim Joint upgrade (I actually made my own out of parts and threaded the stock rod, now they are available commercially) which is a great upgrade. I've had both hydraulic and mechanical linkages in my jeep. The most reliable have been the mechanical versions. Why? A lot of people love the hydraulic set up, but mine blow its seals, fix the master cylinder and it would run, fix the slave cylinder and it would run for a while. If you aren't having trouble with your bell crank coming apart from body flex the mechanical system works.

That's the part that got me... I had it bind one too many times when wheeling and haven't looked back since my hydraulic swap.

I used a kit from Novak, but it still took a lot of "figuring out" to make it work...

Haven't had a seal blow yet, but hasn't been too long still yet either and slave and master and tubing was all together in a kit made for each other.

I agree the heim joint set up may do the trick too, and would be much easier to implement as you're not really changing much...

:chug:

One giveaway for finding bad motor mounts is noticing that the engine valve cover is too close to the firewall.

Or like when one of mine went last year, the engine fell to the left and my gearshift just moved about six inches toward my leg. That was an interesting day as well.

Coulda been worse - the windshield coulda been down LOL

CONGRATS!!
