Filled more holes in the tub.

Some dash work.

The bump out on the dash is for the E-brake handle. I’ll remove the bump support and go with a floor E-brake.

Cut in the taillights and fuel filler neck. The closest holesaw I had was 1/8” too small, I used a die grinder to make up the difference.

Stripped the dash

I filled 34 holes, still have 2 more plus a big patch.

We’ve had several days of high humidity (low 70s) with at least 3 more days to go. Covered in welding gear I couldn’t keep my eyes dry enough to get any consistency going so I cut the night short.

Side note: I understand why some of the holes were drilled in the tub and fenders. However, there’s many random holes drilled in places that do not make sense to me. I’m sure in the 64 years each one has their own story. Inside the tub has close to 50 holes, outside including the fenders around 60.

Installed polycarbonate windshield. It is easy when you CAN flex it!
I also did some much delayed maintenance.
Plug wires were snapping they had gotten so hard from all the heat cycles. New plug wires have heat protection sock like deals to stop the headers cooking them.
Engine had been missing - found one sparkplug only finger tight.
Oil on engine - valve cover nuts loose.
New HEI distributor rotor and cap.

Couple days ago I noticed my house lights flickering. Last night a friend came over and we investigated the problem. Found the neutral ground was toast so we installed a new meter box. I cleaned the contacts on the meter as best I could but there is pitting so I’ll call the electric company and have them install a new meter. Lights are now working as they should.

Had a short night in the shop, spent about an hour with a hammer and dolly smoothing out the dash until I was comfortable with it.

Cut some metal and tacked them it.

I’m impressed they used 14g for the dash, around the steering column it’s doubled up for added support.

Late start last night. Dash is stitched in and first round with a stone. Probably hit it one more time with the stone then finish it off with a flapper wheel.

I worked the dash to a point of cutting in holes for the gauges. I didn’t want to spend time with the flap wheel on sections that would be cut out.

The dash isn’t finished, need to enlarge the 2 top gauges by 1/8”, fill some spots with wire, and hit it with a flap wheel again.

Today I finished sewing a new steering wheel cover on. I had tried to repair the old one, but the stitches failed in new places so I decided to replace it. I used the old cover as a pattern for the new one. All the stitching is done by hand. This was my first time making a cover like this and I learned some things. It's not perfect, but then neither is our jeep.
I actually tried to do this with the wheel installed... don't try that, it is really difficult. [emoji4]

I never get any good pics of my jeep on the trails. No one takes them of me. I do have a dash cam to take videos. So I till try to take some. I may be leasing a group on Greens so it may not be very exciting. We will see.

Today I finished putting the new weather stripping on and reinstalled my hardtop. That's it for repairs/improvements for this year as I have neck surgery Monday and by the time I can work on it again the cold weather will already be here.

I still have to open the top two gauge holes 1/8” and a bit more touchup before a skim coat. I keep telling myself it’s a CJ that will be used as the factory intended, on and offroad. A trail Jeep and grocery getter.

I wasn’t able to transfer the fuel filler neck that was mounted on the passenger side panel to the rear. The design wasn’t a Jeep neck. I found a CJ neck in my parts loft which worked perfect after some cleaning.

I had to trim both sides of the fill hose to make it fit properly. Two new neck to tank hoses were added.

Already have new reverse lights on hand and I’ll pick up a new fuel cap.
