What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I think the coolant leak is fixed yet again. This is ongoing and I will continue to try. Put my doors and windows back on its that time of year. Dreaming of jeep adventures while driving to get groceries.

It looks like your drag link is adjustable on both ends too! I plan to get back to the stock spring height on stock wheels. I don’t think I’ll be driving on anything that doesn’t at least marginally look like a road. I figured the stock components would work.

Texted the guy who sold the jeep to me. He bought the jeep in 2000, had no idea about the re-tub. So the brazing and body work was pre 2000.

The better question IMHO, would be, what didn't you do to your CJ today? Yikes!

The list is long & distinguished. Getting closer to having her back on the road tho... about 2 weeks away, with many ongoing projects.

Wiring... somebody truly should be waterboarded for the hack job done to the wiring. 🤔💯 still have dash, switches & gauges to finish up. Rear plate light (arrgghh... they'll get ya for not having one here in Texas. $50 fine.

Preparing to switch everything over to an HEI distributor in the near future. That'll be fun, but should make it much more reliable.

Redoing the heat/vent system... new GM 4-speed blower motor. Need to fab up switching for flap doors.

Yep... it's a CJ. I'll always have something to do on it & that's the "fun" of owning one. CJ owners tend to be masochists for sure. 🤣🤣🤪🤪😁

Have fun y'all...

"If you're a Texan CJ owner, maybe we'll meet on the trail one day!"

One step at a time! Eventually it should get sorted out enough, lol!

My buddy with the repair shop next door delivered my next project this afternoon. Drag link!

Got my drag link in! I had to go back and tighten the wheel side as I didn’t tighten the castle nut enough the first time. It tightened up the steering a lot. Whether it’s enough for me to feel comfortable at highway speeds, time will tell.

Developed a really loud squeak that seems to be tied to the tires rotating. I think it’s the driveshaft. Since the U joints may be 40 years old and I have to change the pinion seals front and back anyway, I pulled the rear shaft.

It’s not the u joints on the rear shaft, lol. So, I lubed the 2 u joints that had zerk fittings, I’ll pick up a zerk for the last of the 3 u joints. It’ll be the best lubed shaft on a CJ.

Is there a pinion seal brand that’s better than others? I’d rather not pull it apart more than once.

I swear if I have to deal with another sub-compact cutting me off, I'm going to mount a recoiless rifle on my CJ5 !

Swapped out both pinion seals today and got the back driveshaft back in. I forgot to count the threads on the front diff when pulling the yoke off. *cringe*. I couldn’t torque it down with a torque wrench as the nut took more than the torque setting to even turn. I ended up setting it to where the yoke moved in and out a little, but not too much. Maybe 1/16th of an inch in and out? It still spins smoothly. Time will tell if I got it close.

It’s kind of on life support but after 21 years of sitting it only needed a carb rebuild a fuel pump and a coil. Ran for 1 min two times and actually sounded pretty good.

Every AMC Inline-6 wants to run! 👍
Good move circumventing the gas tank, fuel lines, and sending unit. I would assume everything is rusted varnish after sitting for 21 years.

I remember my dad telling us stories about driving vehicles just like that on the road back in the 30s and 40s and because of rationing of gas, they figured out starting out with gas and when the engine was hot, switching over to diesel which was plentiful and just before turning the engine off, running it back on gas for a couple of minutes.

I used the Jeep to pick up a load of wood. Then used it to pull over a tree. Lastly I'm getting ready to paint my G8. I've been busy and not posting much. I apologize
