What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Sounds like a badge of honor type thing to say you completed the trail and survived
It may just be a Darwin thing going on there. Stupid is, stupid does thing. :chug:

Today I ripped my soft top parts out from the pile of weeds they've been merging with all summer, when the leaky old shed they had been in for a decade got demolished. I installed the hardware and managed to stretch the top on. I'll leave it alone for a day or two to stretch back out and maybe evaporate a little of the grandfather's coffin smell it has going on. Then on the next sunny day give it a good wash

30 minutes here and that top would have been ready to stretch out 15 minutes ago.

Well it was yesterday now, but the weather felt pretty nice out, the weather person calling it a false fall. A little lower temps but mainly low humidity and dew point so the back seat rider and I took a ride along the Mississippi River out to the spillway. Ordered oem body mount pucks & a devoted rocker switch- voltage/usb for my new 2nd battery.
Ordered stronger battery hold downs for the 2 batteries now residing on the rugged ridge tray.
Rebought my domain I owned from 2002 - 2009 www.greatcj8.com

Finished a refresh on a 44 with 5.38 and lock right. Also in the background, almost complete with a Dana 30 , 5.38 spartan LSD and heavy tie rod flip.

Well been here a couple of times. Really have no funds for a completeRear axle planned rebuild. I did go to the Off Road shop here and look at the Beast. Took some before photo's as it is in line for the BDS 4" lift and complete steering rebuild with a steering stabilizer. For the most part, it is a looky visuale thing. Since it will likely only ever see the current 33x12.5x15's. It drove great without. Think I am leaving it the dark brown with checkerplate rust cover repair plating for now and just replace rear axle with Currie 3rd member wide trak build when suspension is being replaced eh Asked the shop to do breakdown and build photo progress. Then I can show it off lol Felt good to get a bit into the plan. Laughably the rear axle rebuild with disc brake and e brake conversion is the same as doing the rear axle brake job on the full floater Dana 60 on the 1st Gen W250. That nightmare needs front brakes too and suspension bushings and leaks.. Smart money is on getting the CJ7 on the road 1st eh Live Large eh Sorry pics still on phone will post asap eh

Well, done yesterday, lol…

I’m still sorting out the jeep purchased about 2 months ago. Last weekend I noticed a whisp of smoke from a loose valve cover above the manifolds. I didn’t have my star bits on me, so I tightened the bolts down yesterday and cleaned all the oil/grime off. I think this fixed that issue. Time will tell if I need a new gasket.

The idle on the 2100 was starting to creep up as it slowly dissolves all the gunk out of it. Yesterday I noticed that the idle screw had been backed off to the point where it was no longer advancing the throttle any more. I adjusted the mixture screws, backing them off 1 turn each. Later I found this was too much and richened each of them 1/2 turn. I think I have it set now. I’m hoping I don’t have to rebuild or replace the carb. I know there’s a cover for a piece of the choke missing on the top of the carb and the linkage for that is not connected. But it’s running, lol. One thing at a time!

The jeep drove much nicer yesterday than last weekend. I think the leaf springs are starting to move against each other. Working the surface rust out. My intestines appreciate this. To celebrate I lubed the nylon spacers on the leaf ends.

Last thing yesterday was I drove up a trail straight up a mountain to a Buddys off grid cabin and decided to do it in 4L for the fun of it. It works, lol. And none of the spinning involved when my full sized truck does it in 2H.

Today my 15yo will practice driving stick and we’ll get some more miles driven! I do want to check out a trail close by.

The kid was off with the wife this weekend and there was a marathon down the road that kept me from putting any miles on the CJ.

I did fiddle with the carb a bit, and unfortunately, as I walked by the jeep later in the day I noticed something dripping down the inside of the rear tire. It’s gear oil. I’m thinking axle seals. Now I get to figure out if I will stick with the current axles, or maybe upgrade them while I have them apart.

A great day turns bitter. You'll get to the end in a CJ.

I brought my '79 CJ7 home one week ago today on a trailer because the steering and steering wheel were too loose for the 60 mile ride home. Since then I have fabricated a bushing to go between the upper steering shaft bearing and the spring plate (that kept the bearing together and that corrected the loose wheel).

I replaced the leaky driver side wheel cylinder. Replaced front calipers and pads. Replaced a front brake line. l Flushed all the old brake fluid out. Replaced lower steering shaft (it's upper u-joint was very loose). I repacked and adjusted the front wheel bearings. Tracked down and repaired almost all the wiring issues. The issues were: no brake lights, no hazard flashing, no left turn signal, neither front round turn/running light worked, fuel level gauges (orig and aftermarket) don't work.

I am not worrying about the orig temp and fuel gauge at this time (I'm sure I will look at these later). Four aftermarket gauges have been added. The temp, oil pressure, and voltage work, the aftermarket fuel level indicator does not. I traced it to the sending unit in the tank. When I ground the signal wire from the tank the fuel gauge goes to full. I ordered a sending unit from Amazon yesterday and I retrieved it off my front porch a few mins ago. Fun day ahead !!

The date code on the tires are 1999 & 2000

Sounds like you have it under control and are just about ready for a road test.

My tires are 20+yo too. I plan to replace them next spring. I’m keeping speeds down in the mean time.

It’s early, but I’ve been playing.

New choke pull off on the 2100. The jeep started much smoother this 40F morning! I put a new temporary vent tube on the rear differential hoping that the one on there was plugged. I couldn’t free the existing one, it must be secured somewhere on top of the fuel tank. A 2ft piece of 5/16 fuel line cost $10.92! Holy :dung:! The Brakleen I picked up to try to get the gear oil off the drums and tires was half that, lol. I refilled the diff to see if the leak continues with the new vent.

The dog was enjoying the ride to the auto parts store and gas station. Pics from the parts store parking lot, lol.

A buddy with a 64 CJ5 will be up and we plan to hit a trail this afternoon.
