What's this mean?

I believe you would install the rod and rocker, hand crank engine to the point that valve should be operating and pressure solid on the rod, then see if sloppy enough to pop out still. Technically it should be "stuck" in there at all points when the lifter is pumped up good...



I may be off base here - not sure if there is a better way. Might be able to measure movement with a dial indicator riding on the cam lobe, or lifter while hand cranking too?

Yeah, wasn't sure with the hydraulic lifters and such if there was a good way to measure things. I'm hoping it is a bad lifter since it has had a tick since I've had it. last parts should be here today and hoping to get out there this weekend and see if I can get them out without pulling the head.

Plan to update as I make progress. Ultimate goal is to get this fixed up and then sadly sell the Jeep. I'm a single vehicle kind of guy and I need something better for the family and Limited time I have available for maintenance.
