I think this is a good discussion, but a bit dangerous as it's a bit of a religious discussion in some respects.
For me, it's a Jeep thing regardless of whether or not it was Willys, or AMC or Chrysler, etc. I think we get stuck sometimes on who "owns" what with regard to companies and so forth. I think a Harley Davidson Sportster is what it is, regardless of whether it's a 2014 model or one built during the AMF years or one built prior to the AMF years. I don't think Sportster owners distinguish them. I'm pretty sure the TJ's were Jeeps technically built by both Chrysler and Daimler-Chrysler and I doubt they argue between them.
If you don't like Jeep being owned by Chrysler, or Daimler, or Fiat then that's your choice. But if you limit your scope to the fact that it is simply a Jeep, and not get wrapped around the axle of corporate ownership then it's a much easier pill to swallow.
Now when it gets to models, for me that's entirely different. I love CJ's for the same reasons we all do. I don't care for YJ's simply because they have square headlights. There's been PLENTY of days I considered a YJ and put a CJ clip on it...
I guess I just see they YJ's, TJ's and so on as a natural progression of the model. I also understand why other's do not.
