When is a CJ no longer a CJ?

When is a CJ no longer a CJ?
This is a great thread... I have enjoyed reading each post.

Question... I know we all watch NASCAR (at least a little), are they really Toyotas, Chevys, Dodges and Fords?

Just want an opinion...

Don't get me started on this subject because I'm a big race fan, although I'm more a fan of Road, Rally, and Formula Racing. In my opinion they (NASCAR) are running spec race cars. I only see the brand names as sponsers and that's about it. Now if you want to get into a real discussion about whats right and wrong with NASCAR I'm sure there would be some very heated discussions. It wouldn't solve anything but it would get your blood pressure up I bet.

When it gets to the point that it's no longer recognized as a CJ, then I'd say it stops being a CJ. Same with any vehicle, if you look at it and can't even tell what it is, then it's no longer that vehicle anymore.

Didn't read all the replys but I'm SURE someone had to say............When it has square headlights

Is anybody going to the Federated Auto Parts 300 at the Nashville super speedway on June 6th?. i'll be working security there, Nothing like getting paid to watch a race :D

Ask a non-jeep person what is it, then what ever they say is your answer.

BTW anyone else drive a wrangler?!?! or do you correct them and state that it's a CJ5 !

I am new to the world of Jeep CJ's but it seems to me, if it is a Jeep it is always a Jeep.

If you see it and think at first glance "It is a a Jeep."

No matter what is inside.

If a company called Mercedes Benz can claim a car "Made in Germany" even if only one little engine is really produced in Germany, all other parts come from different countries and are only build together in Germany, we can declare a Jeep as a Jeep (even if it has Toyota parts inside).

By the way, do you know that most Germans say "Jeep" if they see an Offroader on the street. It is common there to say since WWII.

Is this a "Jeep"? Hell I don't know, but it sure is Coooool!:chug: BTW those are Jeep 012(2).webp 54"Michelin military tires. Have you heard? "Everything's bigger in Texas!"

As long as JEEP maufactured it with those parts, I would agree. BUT, taking a toyota what not, or a Mercedes chasis and plugging a CJ looking body on it, does not make it a Jeep. Someone may see it, and say Jeep, but it aint a Jeep.

I agree with you there Coldwater... Quick question on that tho, my CJ has an AMC 360 in it. Those motors never shipped with a CJ7 , BUT were shipped with the Waggy's... sooo, is my jeep still considered a jeep ??

Far as I'm concerned it is. That was a Jeep motor. I have said before, Mods are expected on an old Jeep, but when they become more Toyfordolet with full driveline swaps and mods that pretty much leave only a shell of a Jeep, It aint a Jeep no more. If AMC made the part, then what the hell, It's a modded Jeep using thier own companies parts. Just my take on it.

I think it's more subjective than literal. Some people believe if you change the tires for something more aggressive it's no longer a Jeep. Some think to much lift, it's not a Jeep. Some say engineswaps are beyond the limit. Some preach real steel bodies, others say no frame changes (aka Matkins). I think it's more what you think & :censored: what everybody else thinks. Then again opinions are like :censored:holes, everybodies got one! BTW Willys, Kaiser, AMC,Chrysler & now Fiat have all been in the
"Jeep" buisiness!

In the words of Elvis. Thank You, Thank You very much.:punk:

Tires are a maintennance item, and meant to be changed. Lift, as long as It's in line with what was stock regardless of height, is no big deal. Engine swaps? If it was offered by the original manufacturer, is a simple swap with little modification. Bodies and frames are not going to last forever, so replacing one with one manufactured to be as close to what Jeep had intended....no big deal. Bolt on "stuff" like skids or winches don't detract from it being a Jeep. From what I can tell, there are 3 schools of thought on a Jeep. Pristene stock show Jeep. A workin Jeep that,s just a Jeep with some extra help bolt ons and tweiking, and People that like the idea of a Jeep, but have everything about them, so they build a chasis with parts from other auto makers and major aftermarket parts and stick a jeep body on it. You're right though, as long as you like it, who gives a :dung:. But at some point, there is a line crossed where a Jeep is no longer a Jeep. An Airsoft rifle does not an M-4 make. Sure looks like one though.

My cj will still be a cj when its done i think. CJ stands for Chevy Jeep right? There was once a GM Turbo 400 offered in jeeps so chevy parts should be allowed.
