I am shure it was an old parts rig the previous owner scabbed together to get rid of. Wish he could see it now!!
At least it survived long enough for you to get it and save it.

Of course it would look better with “USAF” on the front rather than the silly “USN/USMC” thing you have on there now.

1978 CJ7 Golden Eagle all original and ZERO rust, and I do mean Zero rust. Jeep originally from South Texas and now in Tuscumbia, Alabama I am the 2nd owner. First owner had this jeep for 37 years and logged 101,000 miles.
Cost me $3,140 spring 2018.
 
1980 CJ5 .
It's a work in progress. Needs a little of everything but is drivable and in decent shape for it's age.
