Build Thread 1979 Jeep CJ7

This is a modification I did to my emergency brake pedal assembly. It was weak and disengaged all the time. Decided to drill a couple holes and put a spring in to add some pressure to the mechanism that holds the pedal engaged. I put a little too much lithium grease in there and it took a while for the grease to thin out enough that the pedal finally stayed engaged. Since that point, it has held. I still use a short 4x4 post under the back wheel when running the jeep in neutral in the drive. It's popped off so many times it has me paranoid. I'm not sure even if I had a brand new replacement that I wouldn't still chauk the wheel.

But thought I'd throw a pick up here. I by no means advise anyone to do this to fix their E brake pedal. I'm just showing what I've been up to. This fix is not to be trusted but I just wanted to try something. It only has one spring on it now and not the double spring.

Well, I thought I had posted pics of the intake gasket job but I didn't see any so I'll post those up. These just shoe the intake off the engine. I thought it was a pretty clean oil galley.

Nice pics! Thanks to catering to those of us who like to watch LOL

That was a clean galley - When I opened mine up it was clean, but not quite that clean...... And the new casket install is the only question mark in my head - not totally convinced I got it sealed up tight, and won't know till I run it.

And what the heck is this?? I've been scratching my head and cant come up with any ideas.....

Tub liner looks good! I'll be doing the same in a couple months.

And don't sweat the one piece axles.... the only trouble you MAY run into is having to grind down the retainer ( I think - Mine already had em installed, but in reading threads here, that's usually the only trouble spot.) Oh, and having to remove thrust blocks from the rear differential if you have em. There are plenty of write-ups here - you'll be fine.

I have absolutely no clue. This previous owner had left over CB stuff around the jeep. There was a magnetic holder for the mic I thought was mounted permanent to the dash but turned out to be held on by a magnet.

My best guess would be one bracket to hold a CB radio. The round gasket thing was loose around the base of the stick shift. I assume it was an old gasket for that but didn't see where it would go when I had it apart.

I still have the large whip antenna that was on it when bought and I am thinking about using again as I want to add a CB back to the Jeep. It just doesn't seem like a Jeep until it has a winch and a CB radio. Working towards both of those things but this other stuff keep popping up. :chug:

If I wanted to do a really nice job on the tub, I think I'd had it line-x'ed instead. I wound up using Rustoleum bed liner which turned out ok. It's no different than painting the exterior. The final outcome depends highly on prep work. I degreased but somehow missed a few areas and also had some reaction on other areas. Prep prep prep. I tired Duplicolor Kevlar and had to remove it before it dried because the course they had in the mix clumped on my. It just wouldn't spread evenly.

Looks like a radio mount to me too. Once you look at the other pictures you can tell it is on the front of the center console.

Wait till I get mine done, I've planned for 5 different radios in the CJ Truck.

I just got done reading a really good article on how to tune your antenna. I only plan to use one radio but want a good one. I have a long whip antenna that came with the Jeep, and for some reason I feel like I just have to use this sucker. I'll have to secure the tip somehow, it won't fit into the garage. So I need to find a clamp of some kind to use.

On another note PB. I have just ordered my one piece axle kit. I went with the Moser kit. I'll have to find someone with a press to install the bearings and retainer after I get the spacer sized to the housing.

Yeah, after he said it came with radio stuff I figured that's what it was, but I had already asked the stupid question, so I let it ride.... LOL

I'll just go ahead and bust myself out as a big ol' poser - I want a CB in the Jeep just so I can mount an antennae - they just look "right" with one. So I will have a CB, just don't know how much I'll use it........

Not a poser at all, you never know when you need a radio until you need a radio. I'm not much of a radio kind of guy either, but will install one for trail use. I need to get or make some sort of can to install the radio in and hang it between the seats on the sport bars over head. I figure some sort of can will keep the radio dry and possibly a safety against theft. Do they make such a thing? Hmmmmm, another welding project.

CB is 'old-school' for sure and I still have one in my Jeep.

That may be, but about the only time I can see my using one would be a couple times a year on a mild trail run..... I figure a CB would serve well.

Here is an idea for your front bumper mounted high lift. Some grade 8 hardware and steel spacers mounted on the bumper. Just used existing holes in the procomp bumper that were there for lighting etc.

:ww: :dbanana:

Welcome to the forum. :chug:

One downside to that front bumper mount, is all the dirt/road spray that gets into the jack's lockwork.

A little advice. I did something similar with my first CJ5 . Bolted my brand new High Lift Jack to the bumper ..... didn't last 12 hours before some SOB took it for himself. Bought a new Jack and used padlocks to secure it. Never lost it again. .... until some years later when another SOB broke into my Trooper II and took that one. But that was in an older time when more folks knew how to use a High Life Jack.

Yes. Agree with you there. It's hard to see but there is a cable lock run through it and through the winch plate. If someone has a set of good bolt cutters they could get it. But it's a decently cheap form of insurance.
