Please take a look at the picture and let me know what sort/size socket I will need to remove the clamp strap on my '83 CJ7. It is unlike anything I have, and I cannot see any description on ALLDATA or in my original technical service manual.

FWIW, I'm trying to move the drive shaft out of the way so I can drop the oil pan... which has taken me week to "unstick." the PO used a ridiculous amount of RTV...

Your help will be most appreciated!!

Looks like you need a torx socket.

Called inverted torx

Thanks to both of you! I thought Torx as well, but all my Torx sockets are 6 point. The bolts pictured have 12 point heads. I believe my further research using Google AI has revealed what I need:

"E-Torx bits and sockets are 6-point, but M-Torx bits and sockets are 12-point, often used particularly for automotive, industrial, and high-torque applications, often used for specialized fasteners like CV joint bolts which allow for better positioning in tight spaces."

I've added this for anyone else who may need to know in the future. In the meantime, you did help guide me where to look. Many thanks!!

You tried a 12 point socket mm or standard socket 1/4 drive? Yesterday I had to buy mm set of Allen wrenches for a 3 mm Allen. It was in between 7/64 and 1/8. :biggun:
