258 rebuild shop VA

Hello,

New to the forum here, finally was able to register but I've been browsing some of the threads for a while now and have gotten a lot of good information.

I've got a 84 CJ7 that I've been messing with and the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l needs to be rebuilt, 200k+ on it, a little smoking but recently the remain seal decided to go on it and it's time to give it some love. I don't have the space or resources to rebuild it myself and was wondering if anyone was from around central VA and could recommend a good shop that would be able to do it for me. I thought about going the crate engine swap route but after reading a fair amount of bad reviews and hearing from a few mechanics I figured it best just to get someone to rebuild mine.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

May be too far for you, but MDR engines in Purcellville did the machine work on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . They are great. Jeepers with a love of old iron and they understand old engines. Might be worth the drive. When I had mine rebuilt five years ago they took an extra AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I had on partial trade for the machine work. They were building 4.0L strokers and were looking for cores. MDR Performance Engines

Let us know what you end up going with. I'm in Chesterfield and might need to start looking in that direction at some point in the not too distant future.
