Hello everyone,
I am converting a '75 CJ5 to a small diesel. I am using a T-5 and a Dana 300 . I believe the CJ has a 4" lift. The springs have taller than stock shackles and much more arch to the springs.

I have hit a few snags:
Does the T-5 bolt to the crossmember directly, with possible a thick piece of rubber between? What is the stock setup, and how is it isolated?

I have 3 possible locations for the Transmission crossmember. With the T-5 and Dana 300 , and the Jeep was bought with no drivetrain, I have no idea how it goes together properly for the stock driveshafts I have. Even searches and the Haynes manual is not helping.

Thanks in advance (if I can get actual help here. My requests for dimensions for stock tub wheel arches doesn't seem to be worth anyone's time even after a week of patience) !

The T-5 Dana 300 combo might be too long for your swap. The 4 inch lift will severally hurt your driveshaft angles. The dana 300s behind the T-5 also had long output shaft. The d300s cj5s from 1980-83 came with short output shafts behind four speeds only. The diesel being hopefully a four cylinder might mitigate the length if you can push the motor forward enough. You have a lot more work than worrying about the skid plate. Think the entire swap through and consider a lower spring shackle combo to start.

That diesel will tear that T-5 apart.

It depends. The mercedes om617 will be a good fit for a T-5 .

I guess I didn't read the original dimension thread too well, I missed the CJ5 part... But that said I don't think it matters...

You have the original measurements that duffer gave you on the original post. I measure (on my CJ7 ) 25 1/2 inches from apex of opening to back of tub.

The image below shows my same measurement on a CJ5 to be 28 3/8, but it includes the tail light which would account for the difference.

So this info plus Duffer's info should get you an OEM opening.
