So.... did the filler tube swap sides from 82 to 83?

Lol nope, they swapped sides when they went to square headlights, when I was worrying in Afghanistan I was ordering parts and storing them at my sisters house, well a YJ gas tank and skid plate, I really wanted the in tank fuel pump because I intend to have fuel injection I also wanted 20 gallon capacity, unfortunately I did not find any information on the fact that they widened the rear section of the frame when they went to square headlights, the gas tank is 3/4 inch wider than the CJ frame so I decided screw it and widened my frame to YJ width to go with the YJ tank and YJ body I have, I like the filler neck on the drivers side and it’s behind the license plate which looks cleaner to me

I am familiar with all of the tried and true Technics listed above. Being a country boy from a large family you learn to do with what you have, or do without.
I really would like a 20 gal tank in mine. my 4.0L is fuel injected and I'm sure I'll have to reinvent the plumbing. Any other clearance issues I should know about?

I have seen a few guys since I bought my tank put the in tank fuel pump on the CJ sending unit and drill a hole in the top of it for the wiring and seal the hole up with silicone......

That would be wwwwaaaaaaayyyyy easier than what I did, the CJ 20 gallon tank will hang lower but it’s better than cutting out both rear cross members and welding in new ones after you spread the rails out with a bottle jack

The fuel pump on the sending unit is the way i did mine

But will the silicone survive and thrive with gasoline ? Seams like the silicone would deteriorate.

With original sending unit ?

It is the original style sending unit my stock one was junk so while i was in there I replaced it and modified it to accept a fuel pump. I didnt use silicone though I kept the wires stock for the sender. Drilled a hole for a xj sending unit fitting that i had laying around. Also used the the stock plug for the fuel pump wires so i can disconnect it when I service the fuel tank. It was in the middle of winter when I was doing this so I didnt take any picture of the process. But i will have to drop my tank sometime soon so Ill take some Pictures

Well I’m working on the hydroboost, busy these last few days, the Chevy hose I got that goes between the hydr and steering box is a little short since I moved the steering forward so when I get a few minutes I’m going to try to straighten out the hard line ends to get it to fit the steering box

Tapatalk is not working with the site at the moment so no pictures

The adapter needs to push the hydroboost off the firewall by 2 inches and the bolt pattern is 2 7/8x 4.25

I logged out of Tapatalk on my iPad - won’t log back in. But my phone is still hittin the site - for now

Whoops i didnt think about captions to busy waking up and drinking coffee,

I bought the K30 hydroboost to power steering box hose, due to my wheel base stretch I had to straighten out the bends in the metal ends for it to be long enough to reach

the adapter plate i made from a picture Coldair sent me from a guy on ebay that makes them, the bolt pattern on the fire wall is 2 7/8 x 4.25. i made it 2 inches long, you need a 3rd plate to bolt the hydro boost to, it has a huge nut that gets torqued to 100ftlbs then that 3rd plate needs to bolt to your firewall adapter plate, I used the stock ps hose from the jeep to go to the hydroboost, its kinda coiled up but is working good

Also the hydroboost needs a return spring inbetween the Master cylinder and its piston, my rebuilt unit from Orielys did not come with one so I am in the process of finding the right stiffness spring sofar it appears to be pretty stiff

man this hydroboost is awesome, i went from crappy brakes that i was having to push really hard on to locking up my 35s with ease

Thx Shum8 for posting pics
Thx a million for Coldair sending me all the info and help on this project

Parts list:

*this set up uses the 1980s metric O ring hose fittings*
hydrobooster for 1991 chevy astro van (make sure you have the return spring and piston pin)
Hydroboost to power steering 1986 Chevy K30 w diesel
stock jeep ps hose
3/8 metal T fitting
extra 3/8 power steering return hose

I just did this whole conversion for $170-200

i had some air hose scrap steel and the 3/8 T already laying around so I only had to buy the 1 hose and hydroboost
6ea 3/8 clamps/ 8 if using power steering filter
firewall hydroboost adapter

Yeah, I’m guessing I’m gonna hafta do this..... dangit
