Build Thread 83 CJ7 its time to get it done
I haven't had time to go through your thread completely (nice rig, btw!), but curious what type of Moser axles you're running. I installed the standard one-piece Mosers on my AMC20 , and that setup required (Assembly: step 7) that the bearings be greased prior to installation.

Would sorely hate to see the replacement set get torched if you were running the same setup! :)

Did you figure out what caused the bearings to fail? Just age or something else?

I am running the Moser Hobby stock axle kit, I have a Dodge 9.25 rear axle that I narrowed to 59 inches, I chopped the original housing ends off and welded on the Moser big bearing Ford housing ends so mine is a pretty unique setup, when I ordered my axles they came with the bearings and seals pre installed so I made sure to re install them how they did.

I really appreciate you looking after me I sure don’t want to sample another $170 bearing set

Your bearings are different than mine also. Mine is a sealed Green bearing.

Yes they are, I have heard of a lot of Mopar guys swapping out their taper roller bearings for the green bearings for drag racing purposes, I went with the Moser set up hoping to have more strength and longevity out of my wheel bearings but managed to smoke this set pretty fast.... hoping to not repeat this adventure

I have settled on not having enough fluid in the rear axle as the culprit, I have the wheel bearings set up to get diff fluid for their lubricant, so this time I’m going to put a lot more fluid in the dif so the gear oil goes into the axle tubes at all times to lube the wheel bearings

Lol, I literally have the wire schematic of the instrument cluster in the Jeep and just ran out of time before I got the bearings in the mail, I can’t believe the freakin thing is empty again

Just fill it every other day. Then every 3rd day. Then 4th until you figure out what it will do in distance :)

Such de ja vue. I also had to call my wife tonight after running the tank dry in my 7 (she relishes this for some reason, and never forgets an occurrence. Although I'm not keeping score, Me 0, her 3). Each time, I swear I'll address the inoperative fuel gauge, but once I fill up, it strangely becomes similar to addressing my aged wiper blades....

Made it to work no leaks from the rear axle and the housing ends were barely above room temp, nothing caught fire or exploded so that’s a win in my book.....
