well some good news, Jeep is still running good, only Oil leak I have now is the rear main seal and that’s gonna be there for a long time, the whole outside of the motor is clean and dry, I’m very impressed.

I got the first heat shielding installed on the muffler, I don’t feel like dropping the skid plate right now to wrap the cat, the placebo effect says the Jeep is ever so slightly quieter with muffler wrapped

I finally ordered the windshield gasket and cowl gasket, really sux paying $11 for shipping but whatever

I also watched bleeping Jeep on YouTube and he made an awesome slide hammer to remove bearing races from his rear axle

Bleepin Jeeps I thought it to cool not to share

Usually I can expand the picture and home in to see better but not letting me Is that welded to the race ?

nope, looks like 3/8 flat plate sized perfect to inside of axle tube, welded to all thread with a weight on it and another 3/8 plate on other end to do a different size bearing race, he has to angle plate in behind race, took about 4 taps and that puppy was out, fastest easiest I have ever seen them come out

Guess I would have to see how he gets it in there and see Does sound good and easy

I’m not sure what has happened to my motor in the past, when I bought it in 2003? It was a .060 reman motor and I am having to swap out my rockers and and push rods with my spare motor to trouble shoot the engine tapping noise I have, I knew the noise was coming from the the rockers because I knew they were loose I figured they were worn out, the new ones are tight and I have lost a cylinder, I’m not sure which one it is yet I’m going to shim it after I do a compression test to figure it out

Sorry to hear that !

Sorry to hear that !

I shimmed #2 and 8 she sounds much better now still need to shim one of the other cylinders...... I’m still confused on what happened for me to need to shim them tho

I'm not a big engine guy What does that mean ? What are you actually doing to do that ? Is this just a temporary fix ? Or just something to figure out where the problem is ? I'm assuming this is on the crank shaft, but I know what assume can mean sometimes

well I have been thinking about it awhile now and it really only has a few possible causes, worn out rockers and mounts, defective lifters, bad valve job/ sunken valve seats

when I re ringed the motor, I took the heads to a trusted machine shop and had him do a 3 angle valve job with new over size valves and bronze valve guides, I haven’t put a straight edge across the valves to be certain they are even but I assembled the heads and never noticed the amount of variation that I have in the motor
The lifters are new but the cam is used, I could have a problem with the base circle worn down on the cam or the lifters not pumping up correctly the motor runs very smooth and has plenty of power and oil pressure so I do not suspect a damaged cam.... the cheap Chinese lifters I do suspect to be malfunctioning

Idid have worn rockers for sure, those things were toast so I am swapping over to the rockers, mounts, bridges and push rods from the spare motor to eliminate that problem

I think I will ride with the shims for awhile

when I go to fix this issue right I want a new cam, lifters, valve springs, locks and retainers, that will eliminate all the old motor parts and should hopefully solve the problem for good

so with the old valve rockers they were loose over the top of the valve tips, as the cam pushed the push rod up and actuated the rocker it would strike the top of the valve and cause a tap

hydrulic lifters have a piston in the center of them that takes the oil pressure from the motor to push the pushrod up to fill the gap between the rocker top and valve tip... this allows a motor to run til rebuild with out having to adjust the rockers like the old solid lifter motors

when you are building a new custom motor and cannot use stock push rods you are supposed to size a push rod so that with the valve fully closed and the lifter fully down off the ramp the push rod should push that piston in the center of the lifter down x amount so it can pump up as parts get wear on them

I have a completely stock motor I should be able to use all stock parts

I keep looking at this cam kit that would make sure it’s not the cam or lifters

Nice Go for it ! You only live once This is what I went with Can hardly wait to see mine running image.webp

Man, you can’t catch a break and it’s not small items either

lol, nope but that’s what I’m down to. all the big stuff done time to tidy up the small stuff

Dang that’s almost the same lift and duration as the voodoo cam, they claim it’s the best daily driver low end torque cam they make

This should be interesting...... wish me luck I’m keeping my cracked windshield for now :0
