AMC 20 axle reinstall?

When reinstalling the axles, do the backing plate bolts draw everything back together, or do you have to drive the assembly back together with a hammer?

- 88 YJ with a CJ nose, 4.7 Stroker, AW4 transmission, Dana 35 HP front Ford 8.8 rear
If you didn't pull anything apart on the axle, The backing plate should pull it all together again. Sometimes if it's going hard, I'll tap the end of the axle to help it along.

Perfect. All I did was undo the backing plate nuts and use a slide hammer to pull the axle. Got my 3:73 gears and Truetrac installed. Time to do the front!
