Auto trans leak

While I had Vickis Cj farmed out for a front end alignment and some brake work I asked him to take a look at the Transmission leak I wasnt sure about. Im pretty disgusted right now.

The shop tells me its leaking from the bell housing area meaning its the seal between the torque converter and Transmission . The whole Transmission will have to come down again. He put some kind of snake oil in there thats supposed to condition the seal. I have little hope in that. I dont remember seeing any seal.

My question is has anyone replaced this or know what replacing it entails?

I've had to change mine twice now.
On mine you have to pull the Transmission . The seal goes over the pump shaft in the case and the torque converter goes into it. Hope that makes since.
I pull my motor because it's easier than pulling the Transmission .

Sure it makes sense. Im still trying to run how its easier to pull the engine rather than the Transmission through my head though.

The one piece front end really helps with that.
Unbolt the header collectors, motor mounts, radiator a few wires and bam it's out.
It's just that I hate working from underneath when I could be overhead with no dirt falling in my face.

Im not a big fan of laying on the concrete floor myself. If I need to my brother has offered some help. Im gonna have to lay out a gameplan here sometime soon.

I'm sure that if I had a normal steel front end, I would drop the Transmission .

Be sure to check the convertor where the seal rides to be sure it hasn't worn a grove in it.
Also buy a quality seal my auto zone one didn't last long.

Pete, I did that same job eight months ago, for the same reason.

Getting the shifter rod inserted when mating the tranny to the shaft housing gave me a little trouble (see two photos). The shifter rod is at max extension when the tranny is in PARK. You can see how I blocked the steel pawl open to be sure I didn't jam (how do I know it can happen? 'Cause I did it on the first attempt) the shifter rod.

Once I knew what I was doing, it was simple. But simple ONLY after I'd done the work twice. Practice makes perfect.
