cj7 turn signal help

ok here is what i got a 79 CJ7 and i have brake lights, and turn signals when my headlights are off but as soon as i turn on my headlights my running lights come on in the front and rear but the rears dont brighten up for the brakes or turn signals why would i have them with my lights off but not with them on? also my front side markers dont blink with my signals when i turn them on and I think they are suppose to... Can someone help me out here I am about to go nuts trying to figure this out?

My first guess would be bad ground to the lights. They will do somw silly things with a bad ground.

There is a short somewhere, the ground could be checked by running a jumper from the battery negative to the tailight housing. There could also be a bad headlight switch. Disconnecting some of the headlight switch wires could be a way to track it down.

2 tests

dimmer switch on the floor board .....unbolt and disconnect wires and test blinkers and so on

headlight on dash......disconnect and twist wires together and test blinker

My PO disconnected all emissions which caused several problems with other components
disconnect and test .....to rule out

My side markers don't blink either it a 79 CJ7
