Eaton E-locker

Eaton E-locker
So, where do you get a set of shims? I've looked in some of my catalogs ... nothin' there for shims.

You can get them (shims) from the site I gave you for the marking goop. They also sell bearings if you mess up the one the OP put of the locker.
Here it is again so you don't have to look back.http://www.ratechmfg.com/toc.htm
They are a small shop here in Cinn., good people, I drive there to pick up the parts I need.

Hmmmmm, Lumpy, you are good for something every now and then. :) Never really thought about using a rope, logic says a strong enough rope would get the job done rather well.

Yeah, I've got to admit that I have lost a little respect for the customer service at Eaton. I don't believe that I came off as some sort of arrogant Neanderthal idiot on the phone, but I sure felt like one after the call.

Old Dog - I hit the internet and found several places to buy shims. In the original post od finding shims I had only looked at the few catalogs that were next to the bed before going to sleep.

Hey - I think I'm being nice most of the time.... Unfortunately it might not always seem that way.

Craigs list just keeps giving. Now I'm chasing a NIB Eaton TrueTrac Limited Slip for the Dana 30 Front end. It's not as screaming a deal as the E-locker was, but a deal non-the-less. These can be found for less than $400, but that price is for the much more popular 3.73 and up differential gearing. Eaton gets a premium for 3:54 and down geared differential with the best price I can find of more than $600. The one I'm chasing is $500 (he won't come down any either) and comes with $65.00 worth of bearings. I figure I'm saving $AMC 150 .00 + tax.

This will give the CJ a darn good Limited Slip in the front end and a very decent E-locker (a full locker) for the rear. I like the idea of having a forgiving but very serious Limited Slip running in the front and when needed an on demand locker in the back. It seems like the best of many worlds.

Opinions welcome.

This is getting pricey and it's hitting my savings hard, but once it's done it's done for many thousand miles/years to come. No clutches to deal with, no special sauce for the oil, no air bags or lines for the locker, now to get'em installed correctly.

Make sure you have a warning light on the dash, so you know WHEN the E-locker is on and not kill your battery.
When do you plan to do the install?
Think you'll really like the set up you have chosen.
BTW: As of March 2, 2015. I have owned my Jeep for 30 years

I'll likely install the front this weekend. I've got the disk front end on saw horses so it should be relatively easy. God only knows when the money will be there to go much further. I am getting itchy to complete a bunch of project ASAP. I'd like to be able to do the Ouray trip this summer.

Only hard part might be 'popping' the carrier out, with the axle assembly out of the Jeep.
Might as well install new axle seals while you got it torn apart.
Hope all goes well.

Removing this carried won't be the first time. I already pulled the old one, installed new gears and reinstalled it. Why didn't I install it then. Well there's the whole disk brake/ booster/brake lines/wheel alignment thing that is slowing me down. It would be relatively easy to just install the axle, it's ALL the other pieces of the puzzle.
