In the VW world EMPI used to mean good quality parts. Nowadays, not so much. I've read the complete range of experiences from great to junk with their carburetors. That alone would make me want to use something more tried and true if it's an option. Wish I could help you more.
 
Thanks for reply. I don’t want to spend 400 for a Weber so I rebuilt the bbd t again. I found the power valve was ripped. Seems to run fine right now.
