Form-a-gasket question

those of you who use form-A-gasket what gasket do you prefer or do you just use the form-A alone. I’m replacing my valve cover gasket thanks guys.

I would suggest the non-hardening type and cleaning all contact surfaces is critical. Fel-Pro makes a good gasket.

I use Fel-pro gaskets and blue Rtv. clean both head and cover good then I will glue the gasket to the cover and let it set up then put a thin coat on the head side and bolt it up. Doing it this way you don't have the gasket trying to move around when installing the cover. It has worked great for me over the years.

This for a steel VC?
I would use felt-pro, and the sealer in you picture on both sides of the gasket.
If it's for a plastic one-Mine has stayed sealed with the orange high temp silicon sealer for many years now. No gasket used with the plastic VC.
Just make sure you really shake that bottle up before use..........

Man I hate valve cover leaks, I started glueing the gasket in place on the cover and letting it set over night before putting more on it and installing it

The trick is getting the surfaces perfectly clean and removing ALL traces of oil. Oil prevents the sealer from bonding to the parts. This allows oil to seep past in no time.
Use carburetor cleaner for the really burnt/dried on oil, then finish with brake cleaner.
Let that dry and then use the Permatex Ultra Gray sealer. Not only is it a sealer, it’s an adhesive. Comes out very thick and very sticky. Just what you want. It’s hands down, the best out there.

Use Acetone to get the surface clean. Be careful it removes paint with just a drop. I would then use Permatex black or copper gasket maker.

Be careful with acetone on plastic. It attacks most types. The black and copper dealers are okay, but old technology.
If you have not tried the gray stuff, you should. You will never use anything else again.
This was a formula designed for GM and made by permatex. It proved so good they brought it to the aftermarket. Previously it was only available through the dealer.

Great stuff! I used that on my oilpan and vavle cover seals a few months ago. Still zwro leaks and it'a a daily driver. I also used it on some Transmission applications as well.
