So as discussed in an earlier thread, I swapped the rear diff gears only because I ran out of time in the shop space I had. I dropped the front driveshaft so I could drive it home and garage it for a couple weeks until we can get back in and do the fronts. Question is, with the QuadraTrac it doesn't seem to pull hardly at all without the front driveshaft. You have to really ease into it and you can feel and hear the Transfer Case hum. Is that normal for this ABNORMAL temporary setup? I'm not going to drive it at all between now and when we do the front and I'm going to pull it with my Expedition to the shop then too. I figured if I locked it in 4WD then it should stop since it wouldn't be trying to transfer power up there at all, but it made no difference (or I have a vacuum leak).

Second question, what do I need to replace to get the speedometer back working accurately? I went from 4.10's to 2.72's...

The QuadraTrac is a full time Transfer Case . It has a differential in the TCase to let the front drive at a different speed than the rear. This differential has a Limited slip in it. You MUST have a drive shaft installed or you will burn out the clutch in the differential. That differential is slipping when you don't have the front drive shaft.
You say you locked the "emergency drive" switch in the glove box and that didn't help? Sound like that isn't working and yes it could be a vacuum leak.

answer to 2nd question: you need to replace the speedometer gear in the TCase tail housing to correct the speedometer. find out how far off the speedo is as a percent and get a gear with the correct number of teeth.

Well that's actually exactly what I thought. I drove it 4.5-5 miles from the shop to the house, and was very, very gentle with it. It's parked and will stay that way, then towed back.

So where can I find a new gear for the QuadraTrac once I figure out what I need?

I'm not sure. I think one of us is confused. So you had your rear end re-geared and now need the front diff re-geared?

As for your Transfer Case . It could be a problem with the vacuum activation system. This TCase also needs a Limited slip additive. That could be a problem if it hasn't been used.

You might also want to get a part time conversion from MileMarker. Check out this link:QuadraTrack transfer-cases

No, I mean the speedometer gear - where do I buy that? I have my gears for the Dana 30 , but when it's all said and done, my speedo is WAY off now and I don't know where to look for one.

My QT has the low range, what model is that?
