I have been doing research on head gasket installation. I have a 360 amc fresh back from the machine shop. A lot of information from u-tube and other sources says use "NO" sealant on the gasket. Put it on dry. I have an original AMC Service Manual and also a Haynes manual that says apply sealant to the metallic side of the gasket. The instruction from Fel Pro says apply sealant to the metal side. I intend on applying "The Right Stuff" sealant to the metal side and copper spray sealant to the fibre side. Any comment or hints about installing heads. One member stated that stud #7 as identified in the torque sequence diagram on a amc 360 goes through to the water jacket. None of the studs on my 360 go into the water jacket. Thanks for any replies.

Ask the folks at the shop who did the work. What does the gasket maker say??
I have used a spray on tacky sealant, to just hold the gasket to the block so I could get the head in place and bolt'd down.
Make sure you use a thread sealant on the head bolt threads that go into the water-jacket, so you don't have coolant leaks later on. I use Aviation-Form A Gasket for this.

I installed headmann headers today on the 360. Followed headmanns's instructions and put a coat of Hi-temp sealant on both sides...

Exhaust is a completely different animal than a head gasket. I have never put sealant on a any head gasket for any motor I have built. I have built several amc 4 and 6 cylinders and a few gm motors. None required sealant.

i misread the post. my apologies
