Someone with a CJ7 measure the door opening right about where the door latch is. Front to back.

I just measured mine its a 86 and the measurement is 35" from front to back. Hope this helps.
 
Ok the door strikers come to find out have ALOT of adjustment. Enough I could stack about 7 washers under the striker and the doors shut and latch.
