ID tag decipher

My ratio tag is 3.73 41-11 I know this is the gear ratio and teeth count but the other numbers on the tag are 999432 what do these mean?
Also on the axle tube the id numbers stamped into the housing are 7-22 103 603331 3 or 8 cant tell.
I need to cypher this out due to busting the pinion shaft and messing up all the inards

999432 is an AMC Jeep part number assigned to the front axle assy.


The other number may be DOM or Dana factory date of manufacture numbers, indicating vehicle and model application.

Can you re-confirm that the tag number is 999432? and not 999342.

The tag is 999432 but it is the rear axle.But whos to say somewhere along the way someone didnt take the one off the front and put it on the back.

Well then, what type of rear axle do you have?

From the factory would be the AMC20 .

The tag is indicative of a Dana 44 from an earlier Jeep. (especially 3.73 ratio)

Note: 999432 doesn't appear in any of my Jeep books, but AMC changed part numbers so many times, the books couldn't keep up.

It is a Dana 44 w/3.73 gears.The numbers stamped on the housing are as good as I can tell
7-22 103 then 603331 3 or the last number could be 8 or even a 5 but 3 is what I make it out to be.

I know you are curious, but does it really matter? You have a Dana 44 with 3.73 gears (in theory anyways gotta check), that's all the information you really need to work on the axle.

I need the number info for the Jeep Salvage yard to get the same rear end I have.
Not sure if it is salvagable with the way the pinion shaft broke and eat up the ring gear and carrier.Wont know if the housing is good until I get it all apart.But would like the info if I have to find another one.PLus I am a little curious about what is in my Jeep.

There should be quite a few narrow axle Dana 44 's available. Yours might or might not have a Limited slip in it (of course there could be something else in there, you've gotta look). I think all 1972 and newer narrow D-44s are the same.

You must have had something interesting happen to grenade a pinion shaft. Does your Jeep have a Dana 44 front axle as you have written in your jeep information? A '76 should have a Dana 30 front axle. If yours is a Dana 44 it's not stock. If that's the case you might not have narrow axles. Where does your shocks mount on the axle (welded on mount or is it on the spring plate)? ...... I suppose at this point pictures would be the best way to go.

Essentially what I'm getting at is that with stock Jeep axles you don't have to be especially picky and any jeep salvage yard should know that. However if your CJ has been "improved" with stronger or different components things start to be more complicated.

Mine does have a Dana 30 in the front (I need to change that) and it is a OPEN Dane 44 in the rear.And it is def a "Narrow Track"
Working at getting the brake hubs off .Got right side off left is being a turd.Got some pics if I can figure out how to post them.
