Had Jeep Soup out for a long run on Memorial Day. Jeep Soup has Always had a weeping rear crank seal. But NOW she is saying .....
I'm Done !!
Stop to top off the gas tank, left a serious Witness Mark at the Gas Pumps. Then it would leave a Witness Mark even at "Long Traffic Lights". Had to add a Quart at a Park Visit Stop.
Made it home OK, but it leaked out 2 more quarts. The Chassis is well lubricated !!

So, had to search for a Rear Crank Seal, and MOST important,
Someone with one In Stock!!
Don't forget, I'm leaving on the 9th for the Transmission Wisconsin Adventure Trail Rallye.

Finally found one from "Crown", and pan gaskets too.
The reviews on the "Crown" seal are mixed. Some are having OK results, others Not So Good.
I think part of it is the Quality of the Installation.

Well I have the oil pan off, and
Cleaned off the old Petrified Cork Gasket. So far found two things.
This has been worked on before,
by some Farmer Fixer.
One, the right side Round Stick Seal on the Rear Bearing Cap was sticking out, and Not Cut Flush to get the pan gasket to seal.
Two, I can not see the one on the Left Side in the hole.
I will find out more tomorrow morning when I pull the Rear Bearing Cap.

I will change the filter too, even though it only has 700 or so miles on a Oil change.

Now this is the Crown Rear Seal Kit as it arrived Yesterday.

These ends will have to be Cleaned Up True with a Razor Blade. And I will be using a Quality RTV sealant at this joint.
I will review staggering the Joints in the Cap and Block. I will check for how well it Compresses the Seals "Roundness" in the Cap First.
I'm letting everything drip into a catch pan overnight to save me from wearing most of it.

Yes I Do ......
I could take my Grand Cherokee and Sacrifice it to "Pin Stripe Alley" from trail brush.

Or Take the Timber Cruiser a 1987 Samurai build for such things.

And I DO Have a Pintel Hitch for it to Pull the M416 trailer. Just have to swap out the Light Bulbs to 12 volt.

Funny is that is how the Timber Cruiser got It's camo paint job!!

Previous Owner was my Neighbor's Girlfriend (now wife).
It was White with Pinkish Purple Fenders!!
I would have LOST All My Man Points Driving that around !!

Getting the Rear Bearing Cap out took a little more effort than I thought. But as mentioned, someone has been at this before,
But a long time ago !! By the evidence of the sludge in the bottom of the oil pan.
They had used some form of gasket cement on the sides where the Tube Plugs are.

It had a "Rope Oil Seal". After messing with the Top Part NOT wanting to slide out,......
Recruited my neighbor. The one person pulls and the other turns the crankshaft, it slide right out.

I did have the other Bearing Caps Loosened, and the New Neoprene Seal was stubborn about going in. Same neighbor stopped in to see how things were going......
And got Drafted Again into turning the crankshaft as I push the new seal in. It stopped at about 3/16" or less sticking out on the Passenger Side.
This will Work out, as I mentioned before about staggering the Gaps.
Cleaned up the oil pan, painted it, and tomorrow will put everything back together.
Wish me luck

Working on getting the top half out, made a Tool to get under the Back Side of the Rope Seal to help loosen it up.
Sacrificed a Dollar Store flat tip screw driver. It helped.
Once my neighbor came and turned the Crankshaft, a few degrees of rotation, out it slid !

Well,
Crown's rear seal DIDN'T WORK !!
It is Leaking BAD !!
So some of the reviews and Videos are Correct.....NFG Chinese Junk.
Jeep Soup is now put in the Back Corner of the Lower Barn until the Winter Lay Up.
I will pull the engine, remove the Crankshaft, and get a Rope Seal to install. Also see how the Clutch Condition is at the same time. It is working fine now, but it would be the Right Time to Replace it.

So Plan B.......
I have brought the Timber Cruiser into the shop to Prep for the "Steve's Adventure Rallye".
I have already changed the Light Bulbs out on the M-416 trailer.
Just have to change the Plug wires for the Turn Signals.
(Jeep Soup has independent Turn Signals, they were added on a separate circuit like many were)
