First time ever to post. Have an 82' CJ7 , just finished replacing rear main seal in the ol' AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . While under the Jeep decided to check fluid level in the T-4 Transmission . It was low, had changed it about 700 miles ago. Now about quart low ( no wonder it was hard to shift ). Added fluid went to car wash to clean the grim off from underneath. When I got home, crawled under to find Transmission oil leaking from somewhere above the reverse light switch. Any idea's?

Isn't there a 'breather' just about 2 inches above and slightly behind the reverse light? I think it's on the side of the shift tower area...

Problem found. Transmission has been rebuilt sometime before I bought it, I knew this by all the red RTV squeeze out. The problem was they used the RTV as thread locker and the bolts on the Transmission cover had backed out. Some loose enough to turn with my fingers. Cleaned out the holes, used red thread locker, torqued to 10 ft-lbs and repaired one stripped bolt hole. So far no leaks.

Good thing you found those loose bolts and repaired that thread, but don't you think 10 ft. lbs. is a bit light? There should be torque specs in your repair manuals.
