Lower oil pressure after oil change?

Lower oil pressure after oil change?
Took the sway bar off on mine the day I drove it home from the dealer in March of 1985.
I often run 65-70mph out here.

Fast & loose, that's how he rolls. I brought mine home in March of 84. Kept mine on :)

Much better ride, with it off...

Apologies for reviving this topic! After running 10W-30 with a can of Restore, the blue smoke never went away, and idle oil pressure was sitting around 15 psi after running it for a half our or so. I guess my engine is just old and worn, though it seems to run strong (no idea what the mileage is).

I decided I'd try 20W-50 like LG. I used Lucas Hot Rod again instead of Castrol GTX. I drained the old oil and put in 5 qts and a new K&N oil filter. I didn't put in any Restore. Started and ran it for a while and was getting almost 30 psi at hot idle. Good deal. Only "issue" is it took a little longer on startup to build pressure (mechanical gauge).

Weather is changing and its 45F outside. I decided to see how it would do in the "cold" after sitting for a few days. I bought the Jeep in the spring and haven't run it in the cold before. Was a little slower to start but fired up fine, however, it took about 5 seconds for the oil pressure gauge to start moving. After it moved, it probably took 3-4 seconds for it to hit 60 psi.

Is the initial 5 seconds ok? From my internet searching, it seems to be ok, but I wanted to ask here. The blue smoke issue is 100% gone, which is nice!

With the heavier weight oil it is harder for the pump to suck it up the pick up tube,

Mine pressurizes with in 3 seconds or so when cold

Have you thought about installing a new oil pump and pick up to see if it will prime faster and hold higher oil pressure?

No bigger Lucas fan than me, but I personally prefer the Lucas 15w40 Magnum truck oil with 1qt Lucas Stabilizer.

The truck oil has all the zinc you’ll ever need, and just the right amount of detergents to keep these older engines clean.

The stabilizer helps maintain pressure and viscosity.

15w-40 is a good choice also.
Use the Restore(V8 size).
That gauge delay could be the gauge.
The ZDDP can kill your O2 sensor.
Good luck!
