So I bought my 1978 CJ7 without a starter. Now I’m trying to find the correct fit per the engine stamp (V0907DDF) I have a 1983 305 from a Camaro. I bought the advanced auto parts starter 3553S which should fit but the fit is totally wrong. Doing some research that engine had a 153 tooth flywheel but The one in my CJ is about 13-14 inches in diameter so I’m thinking it is a 164 tooth. Does anyone have a suggestion on which starter to try in at a loss?? Attached is a picture where the starter bolts up.

You are going to need a starter that has the offset bolt pattern for a 168 tooth flywheel. You can see the offset in your pic. Try a starter for a eighties gm truck with a 4 speed manual.
On edit: welcome!

Just make sure the starter bolt holes aren't inline with each other, the bolt holes will be staggered. Also use starter bolts, they will have a raised shoulder near the threads, these help locate the starter on the block. If you don't have them look in the help section of your auto parts store.

Put a 6313S starter in from advanced auto works great now have to diagnose a no spark. But at least I have a starter now. I did replace the starter solenoid already going to check out the coil

The starter I put it is turning Motor but still no spark I pulled the ignition coil and tested it only got.8 ohms across the yellow and red wire. I tried every other combination and could not get a reading. Can anyone tell me what combination is the primary and secondary circuit. I’m pretty sure I need to replace this but just want to throughly test this coil. Attached ar the pictures of the coil. This is for the advice. I’m just a monkey that likes to turning wrenchs

Are you getting a solid 12vdc to the HEI, (red/white tracer) from the jeep. This is important, HEI's are very reliable but need 12 vdc. Also check the the rotor as they like to burn the tip off. The 8 ohms sound about right but not sure, if coil was open then you wouldn't get a reading. Check the carbon tip/spring that protrudes through the cap are intact, make sure insulator ring (looks like rubber washer) is there too. The only other thing that could go bad is the module in the base. These will over heat if not installed with dielectric grease on the bottom.

So I have 12v going in to the heir and the motor fired but only in the start position. I have replaced the starter, 4 terminal starter selinod. I’ve tested all relays could it be a bad ignition switch?? If so how to you get to it??

Check to see if 12v is present at the HEI when the ignition is in the on position. If not, check your wiring. My hot switched wire is red with a white tracer about a 12ga wire. The switch is located up under the dash midway down on the steering column. When you said relays, is this fuel injected too?

Thanks not fuel injected, have 12v in run as well switched out the ignition switch and same result. Thinking it maybe the ignition module inside the distributor.
