Need Engine & Transmission info

I'm trying to figure out what kind of engine and Transmission is in this 1981 Jeep CJ7 I bought. I have the tags and ID numbers. The engine is a GM 8 cylinder. The only ID number I can find for it is 12486512. The Transmission looks to be a Hydra Matic (code # 2KJ M7, Serial # 2238 393554). Carburetor # 17087101 0228 JRA. Incase I need to rebuild or buy parts I need some info on this Engine and type of transmission. Thanks for anyone's advice and help!!

Its a small block chevy, possibly a vortec, if has center bolt valve covers
It is more likely. Is it EFI or carb?
Is the Transmission 3 or 4 speed auto. If 3 speed then possibly a turbo 350, 4 speed a 700r4 maybe.

A closer look at your engine pic it is EFI and a vortec, so that means late eighties or nineties engine.

Looking at first pic of the jeep, it does say Vortec and 5.7 (350) so it does match what's in the engine bay. I usually take vehicle badging at face value, sometimes it's true sometimes not.
