:confused:I just bought a 1965 CJ5 . I want to convert it to power steering and put in a tilt steering column. need info on how to get this done.
Thanks in advance.

Nate, can I ask a few questions
Is your CJ still set up with the original Ross style steering?
Are you running stock seats or plan on changing the seats?

A lot of the answer you want depends on these 2 questions.

yes everything is completely stock and i do want to change the seats.

ok, The reason I ask about the seats is you know you have very little room in there for seats, so if you are going be changing the steering column I would suggest putting the new seats in first.
You will have to build your own seat mounts as no one is going to make anything that will fit, so, First project is Seats, so when you do go and put in the steering column, it is a one time ordeal, not moving it for new seats.
Second, You have a system in there call Ross steering, it is very wearable and it seems that it is high maintenece. You are going want to swap it out to a more modern system, the classic system used is the GM saginaw, although coming up in popularity is the Ford reverse steering box. Anyway it also involves new steering linkage, Advanced Adapters and Herm the Overdrive guy both make setups you can purchase that really do make it simple, You can read a lot about the changes and how to go about it in a book by Moses Lundle, call "Jeep CJ Rebuilders manual, 1946 to 1971". He spends a chapter on the switchover.
Hope this helps.
