Oil Leak

Hey guys, curious about an oil leak I found. I am running a Chevy 400 and I had been noticing small spots under the jeep. When I climbed under it I saw it dripping off of the bell housing. Popped the hood and noticed oil leaking from between the block and the exhaust manifold. Is it simply the gasket for the manifold or is there something bigger as well?

There is most likely a trail of oil you will have to back track to find where its coming from. There wont be oil leaking from betwen the block and exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold isnt a lubricated part of the engine. If its starting to leak that high on the engine itself Id look at valve cover gaskets first.

I read online that while there is nothing lubricated under there, blown piston rings could cause oil to get into the manifold. Truth to this? And that is where my problem more than likely lies. I will try and get a picture up.

It has dried a lot since I drove it last, but when it was just shut off, the oil coming from that seam where the stain starts on the manifold was more clear to see.

Looks like the valve cover to me.

If it was blowing oil so bad it was coming out the exaust it would be blowing smoke out the tailpipe something bad.

I agree with mtnwhlr. Id clean up the block and snug up the valve cover bolts slightly. Lightly and in a cross pattern like lug nuts. then see if it leaks more. If it does youll see it and go from there.
