Had gears and rear crossmember and rear main seal done. Going in it had lower pressure, 25 ish with and acceleration gain. Now there is zero pressure. Checked with mechanical gauge.
My first thought was oil relief valve, but they didnt touch that. I had to make my own cap that is why it was a thought. My second thought was the pickup. Tore it town and replaced pickup, buttoned up and cranked a few times with hei disconnected. Then started. Its 3 am so it only ran twice for a ten second burst. Will it take a second to suck oil again? Prime pump again?

You can prime it by cranking it over with no spark plugs in or by removing the distributor and spinning the pump with a priming rod(old distributor shaft). If you have no oil pressure you might wanna measure the clearances on the oil pump gears and look at the condition of your main bearings to see what is going on before its to late

Is the removal of plugs necessary?

Germy, you do not have to pull the spark plugs if you decide to rotate the oil pump shaft down in the distributor hole. Just rotate it in the same direction as the distributor rotates and have someone watch the oil pressure gauge.

Will it register on electric gauge with key on?

if you use the starter to rotate the engine, it will spin much faster with plugs out because the cylinders arent creating pressure. It will also not eat as much amperage from the battery so you can spin it over longer

Spun the engine for a while. Then decided to take it out. Reading around zero. I was mad and just stomped on it. Psi went to 50 and stayed there.

Adjusting timing now. Noob question. If i have a delay in throttle which way to go. Im around twelve. Should i go towards 14 or down towards 10

I don't understand the oil pressure thing.

Try both ways and see what it does, there's a good chance the accelerator pump might be at fault.

Oh joy, heater core is busted. Gallon on the floor.

I think the pickups hole at connection to screen let air in and spinning it real fast got the air out.

I am a little hot on the carb, demon 670, idle screw all out and it goes to 1000 rpms thats the lowest if thatmatters

I don't know anything about Demon carbs, but holley's have an adjustable accelerator pump so it will come in sooner or later, you probable need sooner. just a guess though.

Going to spend another 50 on coolant and heater core. Can of worms does not do this jeep justice

1 1/2 turns out on the idle mixture screws is a good place to start on most carbs..then fine tune it with a vacuum gauge but the throttle butterflies must be closed because, when they open they override the idle circuit..check for vacuum leaks cause that will keep the idle up..hesitation sounds like accelerator pump..take the breather off and see if you get 2 good strong streams when you open the throttle by hand with the engine off

Messed with timing, acceleration hesitation is pretty much gone. Idles high though.

what is the color of your plugs tan/brown/black? that will tell you if your carb is rich or lean and what is your timing set at? to high and it increases your idle speed. Any trash coming from the tank?
