Sounds like an AMC V8 to me. When I had a 360 in my CJ, I didn't worry about it until I saw 10 PSI at idle. General rule of thumb is 10 PSI per 1000 rpms.

Ok, thanks. I just recently noticed this. Fresh rebuild.

Negative. Autometer c2, and an autometer sending unit. This was the first sending unit of four that worked. I'm wiry.

When I first got my cj with an amc 360 in it I got pretty poor pressure. Below 10psi at hot idle maybe 20-30 under load. Got a new timing cover and rebuilt the oil pump, now Im at around 15 to 18 hot idle and get a healthy 10psi per 1000 rpm increase (maybe even a little more depending). The engine also ran a lot cooler afterwards

When the timing cover came off it was badly worn, I think that really made the difference

You can also try running various weights of oil see how that does

Another gauge ? How hard is it to convert to electric sending unit speedometer. The matching speedo is only offered in 5 inch in electric. I'm assuming the sending unit attaches to tranny then just run wires?

Germy, another option to check oil pressure, would be to hook up a temporary mechanical one and compare it to your electric unit. I recently installed a new autometer pressure gauge an it read quite on the high side. Contacted the company and they said I had the wrong sending unit, so they made me purchase another one. Seems the one in the kit was the wrong one.

Ok, im good torx. The c2 gauge has wide increments so seeing small rises is impossible. It rises towards 50 at high rpms

Good for you, I checked the pressure on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a mechanical gauge years ago and got around 20 which is normal for that tired engine. With my fancy autometer gauge it reads around 50, go figure. Well, at least it works.
