I recently noticed while laying under my jeep that there was oil on the inside of the rear tire, pulled the tire off and the brake shoes and backing plate were covered in oil. So i then unbolted the backing plate and pulled the axle out, the tube had oil in it. It had an inner seal in the axle tube followed by a spacer and what looks to be a bearing race pressed into the end of the axle tube. My question is, is the bearing lubed by the gear oil? If so why is there a seal in the inside of the axle tube? I’m stumped and i can’t find any good info on this. The bearingm on the shaft is also a “cone” style bearing which is different from any other lits I’ve seen.Any help would be appreciated

Mine on the passenger side has been leaking also. Just haven't replaced it yet. Had the replacement kit for a while now too

Gotcha, i wish i knew what seal was bad or could understand what’s going on. I’m thinking the inmer seal in the axle tube is leaking which in turn is letting oil past it and into the bearing/races and out the tub onto the brakes

Do you know who the make of the axle kit? If you can ID that, maybe find more info. Other than that, dunno.

That sounds totally foriegn to what I usually see in one piece axle kits. Probably why not too many have jumped in here. Usually on one piece kits, it has an oil seal, spacer, roller bearing that is packed with wheel bearing grease then another seal.

You are correct sir. Get the correct inner seal and put some bearing grease on the lip of the seal and on the inside where the spring is. That will stop the spring from unseating during install.
Make sure you press it in All the way so the bearing shim doesn’t contact it. When you reinstall Everything put some sealant on the back of the backing plate.
Be a good idea to regrease the bearing as well while it’s out.
