I have a T-18 tranny that has an opening for the reverse light switch in the horizonal bossing by the driver side. There are 3 bossing in the back of the tranny right below the top cover facing toward the rear, The problem is that the reverse switch I got for it is way too small and will not screw in properly. It looks like I need and adapter or a different switch in order to have the switch work. I have put a rod in and felt the reverse gear actuate but it would not actuate my switch because it is too short. The reverse gear is up and toward 3 gear. Is there an adapter or another switch that would work. It looks as if the threaded hole is about 3/4" wide which just about swallows the switch I got for a T-18 jeep.

Thanks,
Buck

I am not aware of any adapter but am real new to the Jeep scene so can't really be of any help.Sorry!

:ww: To you both

I have never seen any T-18 with a 'back-up switch'.
What is this '18' out of?

Welcome aboard to both of you guys :chug:

:)

Reverse light switches were common on some later Ford based Borg-Warner T-18 's and in later year models there was additional confusion among folks swapping these transmissions when Borg-Warner added a direct-drive (4th gear) switch to signal a lean or cruise mode operation to the Engine Control Module (ECM).

It seems that, with the number of T-18 's still on the road, the proper switch should be easily available. Keep trying, call a real jeep place and talk to the owner. There are several out there. I put a new switch in mine and had no trouble getting a replacement. But I will say this, the switch was never tested after installation, I need to stick an ohm meter on it to see if the switch works as it should.
