Can anyone tell me which of these top two vacuum lines to the Transfer Case is the actuator and which is the deactivator? The bottom one goes to vacuum source so I'm good there. Need to replumb these to see if my switch works and if the actuator works.

It may. I have that one and if my source line is on the bottom then it would seem the left one in my photo is release and right is apply. I guess if my indicator light works then this will be easier.

That's a big if. I do have a spare new actuator if push comes to shove.

Well I have mine plumbed up but I don't see a light in either position. The only thing I "know" at this point is that I do have vacuum at the source. I need to verify vacuum at the TC and check my light etc. I have a new spare actuator but need to find the how to again on replacing it. Should be in TSM. Where should it light up on my speedo? I don't see any places for it to light.

I'm half tempted to just move the whole switch to the drivers side and run it off my vacuum reservoir and if no light in speedo then setup a green/red light.

One other question. When this engages should I hear anything or not?

How is the light switch wired if I wanted to hookup a test lamp. It has two prongs are they just pos and neg?

If you have some else flip the switch and you are under the vehicle, you might be able to hear it. The light indicator switch is a ground switch. In other words, it closes the ground wire to you indicator, not the positive. Rod

Okay I have a mental block. I see two prongs (I think) on top...how do I wire a rest lamp?

From the ground connector of the light to the switch to actual ground. Make sure that the light is iosolated from any other grounds. Just as you would a positive wire from light to switch to battery. Totally confused now? ;) Rod

Yes.

There are two poles on the switch...right?

  1. So I go from ground to one pole on switch?
  2. Then I come off other pole to a light socket?
  3. Then run a positive from the socket to a positive source?
I take it then that when the actuator engages full-time FWD, the closes the ground and lights the bulb?

Okay. It's a single poled switch and I've verified my light works by connecting the wire off the switch to a ground. So I can scratch that off.

That leaves me with either a vacuum leak or a bad switch or a bad diaphragm. My money is on bad diaphragm.

So how hard is it to change this? I have a new one already but the ball thing scares me. I'm going to cut a hole in the floor to access it easier. I have a TSM and it covers the highlights. Remove vent and top plate remove ball and spring but doesn't say how diaphragm comes out.

Or is it easier to take off the back of the diaphragm and make it a mechanically actuated?

Here you have some pics to get an idea, how it works...
Jubilee Jeeps - FSJ Heaven

The only thing where one has to be careful is not to lose the small
things in the open case...

The rest is quite easy, but I had to disassemble my rebuilt case twice
to get this poppet ball out

I forgot to mention, the perfect tool to catch the poppet ball when you take out the switch is a Geomag magnet, it has just the perfect size to fit into
to hole.
