Is this the vacuum full-time switch? If so I take it my lines are all rotted away?

Yeah dumb question. I guess I knew that. So I've been doing some reading and when I hook this back up, and IF it no longer works, and IF I can verify that the diaphragm is the culprit, then...is access to the top cover only available if you cut a hole in the floor...or is it better to go electric or with a cable?

Are you saying that you don't think you can access the diaphragm without cutting a hole in the floorboard? Mine is accessible, without any floor board work. Mine doesn't work either, however, and I was in four wheel drive at all times. What I did, temporarily, was install manual hubs up front. Now I am in two wheel drive until I lock the hubs. Some folks on here mentioned that what I have done will cause damage to the Transfer Case , but now after about a year, no damage has been done that I'm aware of. This spring I will probably install the MileMarker part time 4WD kit. :chug:

No what I'm saying is that I'm not sure if mine works or not but if it does not then I either need to replace the diaphragm or I can hook up a mechanical or electrical switch to actuate full-time four-wheel-drive. I'm still not sure there's enough clearance underneath there to remove the top to replace the diaphragm without cutting a hole in the floorboard - which I'm not opposed to.

I would sacrifice the diaphragm before I broke out the Sawzall.
I would opt for a cable operated shift fork before an electric one, one less potential electrical issue down the road.

I think very good access to it due to the spring loaded ball,
that holds the vacuum shifter position, is absolutely necessary.
Disassembling is not that issue, but assembling can be painful.
I just recently did it with the TC removed and also lost the ball
in the TC...

We'll I'm going to test mine soon and if I can't make it work then I'll probably replace the diaphragm, cutting if I have to.
