'78 CJ5 with AMC 304 . I've installed a new oil pressure sending unit and a new Crown gauge. The wiring is also new. The gauge worked fine at first but now it is almost always rapidly "quivering" back and forth right around the 20 mark. Could this be my new $22 oil gauge going bad on me already?

I have heard of bad gauges causing this, but there is also a new sending unit in the system also to consider. I think it is probably the gauge since they are made in China. Some guys convert to a mechanical gauge when it goes bad.

I had trouble with my oil pressure gauge and replaced it with an Auto Meter gauge. I've had it a couple years now and would buy another one. The gauge looks enough like a stock unit to allow it to fit right in with the others. Also, it's easier to install than the stock gauge.

Lumpy -I looked at those, but didn't see a speedometer amongst'em. Speed Hut is very proud of the fact that they are Made in America too.

The OP was 'talk'n' about an oil pressure gauge....:D

Sorry, no argument there or here for that matter. You mentioned the gauges before, I looked at them at the time, but went with another USA made set. I mention the lack of Speedometer because it surprised me that they were missing from the line up. Now, the page you linked shows several different manufacturers gauges, are they ALL at the quality level you prefer?

From what I have seen-Those gauges I like hold up well and I see them in many race cars.
BTW: Auotmeter gauges are stuff'd with China made innards.
Me-I'm using old USA made SW gauges, I put in 25+ years ago. :D

Maybe, I plead "Guilty" to buying gauges that are advertised at being "Made in the USA", but might have foreign guts.

Thanks for the responses. I ordered some of the Speedhut CJ gauges. I'll report back when I get 'em up and running.

Me too. My Autometer gauge faceplates say "Sycamore, IL USA" on the bottom edge. If they weren't made in the US, it should indicate where it's made or not say anything at all.
