Engine Rear Main Seal

1983 CJ7 : I am trying to remove the old existing rear main engine oil seal. That is proving difficult. The seal in the removable (bearing) cap was easily replaced, but the other (upper and hidden half) won't budge. Following procedures found watching You Tube videos, I have used a flat ended punch to try to push the seal around the crankshaft, hoping to remove it at the other side using pliers. Will not move. Any suggestions?

Grab it with plyers. Then turn the crank by hand while pulling on the seal (same direction) the crank will pull the seal out for you as it turns. Use this same trick while installing the new one except you will be pushing not pulling.

Great idea! I had to leave the Jeep alone for a couple of weeks while I'm at my business in Michigan, but I will report back when I successfully remove it using this technique!
