T-18 .... CJ5 .... Driveshaft?

T-18 .... CJ5 .... Driveshaft?
Talked to Rob tonight, he wasn't in much of a hurry and wasn't ready to deal. He says I'm first on the list when he is ready.

The Transmission he had wouldn't fit on a T-15 bell housing. We looked at both side by side.

When your ready I think I've got the rear driveshaft and the bell housing. ;) Pm me then

The Transmission he has is complete with the bell housing. This would be a "relatively" easy swap. Bell housing - Transmission - Transfer Case all in one nice package. Completed this give me what I'd consider almost a perfect CJ. Fuel injection and possibly a Dana 300 Transfer Case , but there's nothing really wrong with the Dana 20 .

Problems - It will definitely need a rebuild/recondition. He bought it on a bit of a hope and a prayer. As it turned out there is some water damage/rust in the Transmission and the input shaft might be a little rough. The Transfer Case is a complete unknown right now. The Transmission support might have to be fabricated or another one modified. I know what he paid for it, I'm considering offering him $700 as is. Long ago I worked on a T-18 and it was fairly easy to work with. The $700 would give him a couple hundred on a quick flip.

Peter - thanks - nothing solid yet, if I go through with the project I just might take you up on the driveshaft.

The 1972 & up AMC motors, V8 or I6 all use the same bell housing bolt pattern so the 1976 bell that comes with the T-18 /Dana 20 combo in question will bolt right up however if a 1976 Transmission as believed 1976 was the changeover year for the T-18 . The model year started out with all OEM T18s with the close ratio 4.01 low but sometime during the model year and no one seems to know just when the T18s changed to the coveted 6.32; just something to check.

I did ask and this one is the desirable 6.32 first. Evidently one easy way to tell is by the shift forks. The newer ones are cast aluminum. There are other ways of course.

I disagree. I think only the 1979 version of the T-18 come with aluminum forks, the others are cast iron. :chug:
